A wireless transceiver having radios which radios that support wireless communications with associated stations on a corresponding wireless local area network (WLAN). The wireless transceiver also includes: a utilization monitoring circuit, an association targeting circuit, and a power backoff circuit. The utilization monitoring circuit monitors communications between each of the radios and its associated stations. The association targeting circuit identifies, from the monitored communications of the utilization monitoring circuit, an underutilized one of the radios as a target radio for re-associating stations currently associated with at least one other radio and initiates the re-association with the target radio of the stations currently associated with the at least one other radio. The power backoff circuit reduces power to the at least one other radio.

Multi-radio wireless transceiver power conservation

The systems and method proposed herein aim to identify a mobile device or devices worn by an individual or a subject that has entered an area monitored by a passive motion detection system that uses wireless signals to sense motion in the space. The system will collect as much signals as possible from both the devices worn by the individual and from the system performing the passive (device-free) motion detection for identifying the individual or person of interest. The individual or person of interest may be a user of a product or an intruder.

A wireless access point (WAP) including: antennas, shared and discrete components forming transmit and receive chains coupled to the antenna for orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) WLAN communications with wireless stations. The station set identifier identifies any legacy stations that do not support multi-user (MU) MIMO concurrent downlinks from the WAP, and a number of WLAN subnets for concurrent downlinks communications thereto. The subnet controller generates the WLAN subnets each having a discrete beacon channel together with a discrete medium access control (MAC) for collision sense multiple access (CSMA) uplinks from associated stations to the WAP, and concurrent downlinks from the WAP including concurrent downlinks to legacy stations associated with different subnets; and the subnet controller configured to inject virtual access control indicia into each of the subnets to control uplinks from legacy stations on each of the subnets to the WAP.

WAP supporting complementary subnets in a WLAN

A wireless access point (WAP) configured to support a wireless home network among multiple wireless devices over a shared wireless communication medium on a selected channel. In an embodiment of the invention the WAP includes a channel tracker configured to track performance metrics over time for at least the selected channel; and to predict based on the tracked performance metrics at least one of: a predicted time of an impending channel changeover requirement in which a projected demand for the selected channel exceeds a projected capacity thereof and a predicted time of an impending monitoring interval for monitoring an unselected channel with relatively minimal disruption of communications on the selected channel. In another embodiment of the invention the WAP includes receive path components configured to concurrently process both communications on the selected channel together with monitored communications on an unselected channel.

The plurality of components form transmit and receive paths coupled to the at least one antenna. The plurality of components form transmit and receive paths coupled to the array of antennas for processing wireless communications. The composite spatial diagnostic circuit couples to the array of antennas and to the array of microphones to successively sample respectively a WiFi environment and an acoustic environment surrounding the wireless transceiver and to determine from each set of WiFi and acoustic samples a composite spatial map of humans and wireless transceivers within the surrounding environment. The rule execution circuit executes an action proscribed by a selected rule when a related portion of the composite spatial map sampled by the composite spatial diagnostic circuit exhibits a correlation above a threshold amount with a spatial context condition associated with the selected rule.

Composite WiFi and acoustic spatial diagnostics for smart home management

A diagnostic system for spatial diagnosis of the WLAN includes: a sounding aggregator and a spatial correlator. The sounding aggregator is configured to aggregate multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel state information (CSI) from channel soundings of the WLAN, including channel soundings between a wireless access point (WAP) node and associated station nodes on a selected one of a plurality of communication channels of the WLAN. The spatial correlator is coupled to the sounding aggregator and configured to correlate CSI from the channel soundings with spatial characteristics of the WLAN including at least one of: a change in location of a WLAN node, human activity among the WLAN nodes, and structural impediments among WLAN nodes.

Wireless local area network with spatial diagnostics

A transceiver for a wireless local area network (WLAN) and the transceiver including a sounding feedback module and a sounding feedforward module. The sounding feedback module is responsive to an explicit sounding from a transmitting one of the nodes to send feedback of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel state information (CSI) derived from the channel sounding to the transmitting one of the nodes for improving subsequent transmissions. The sounding feedforward module is configured to monitor changes in CSI since the last explicit sounding based on CSI determined from the subsequent transmissions of the transmitting one of the nodes and responsive to a determination of a change in CSI above a threshold amount, to feedforward to the transmitting one of the nodes indicia of the change in CSI.

Unsolicited channel sounding in a wireless local area network

A wireless apparatus node supporting wireless communications on a wireless local area network (WLAN). The wireless apparatus node includes: a local link prober, a remote link prober, a cross-link interference estimator, and a concurrent access controller. The local link prober probes a target node for channel information characterizing a communication channel for a local link therewith. The remote link prober probes a pair of device nodes on the WLAN capable of forming a remote link for cross-channel information characterizing communication channels there between. The cross-link interference estimator estimates interference signal levels at each node of the remote link resulting from communication over the local link. The concurrent access controller is responsive to a determination of an active communication on the remote link to allow a concurrent communication on the local link when interference levels at the remote link fall below a threshold level.

Wireless home network supporting discrete concurrent communication links

A structural correlation manager for managing wireless local area networks (WLAN) each supporting wireless communications between an associated access point node and associated station nodes on a corresponding one of a plurality of communication channels across an available spectrum. The apparatus comprises a structural correlation manager including a structural identifier to identify an architectural structure surrounding the WLAN; and a correlator configured to correlate the architectural structure surrounding the nodes and the communication parameters utilized by the nodes to maximize wireless communications within structure and minimize wireless communications outside the structure.
