A peelable package is described. The package comprises a first sealant layer comprising low density polyethylene and a first contaminant and a second sealant layer comprising polyethylene polymer, such as high-density polyethylene, low density polyethylene, ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer or blends of such, and a second contaminant. The first contaminant and the second contaminant are selected from the group consisting propylene/ethylene copolymer with ethylene content from about 0.1 mol % to about 5 mol %, polypropylene homopolymer, butene/ethylene copolymer and polybutene homopolymer. The first contaminant of the first sealant layer may be the same as or different than the second contaminant of the second sealant layer. Also described are various embodiments of the first sealant layer, the second sealant layer and the peelable seal that is formed between the first sealant layer and the second sealant layer.

The present invention is directed to a fracturable thermoformable packaging sheet comprising at least one thermoplastic layer having a thickness of between 10 mil and 50 mil which is composed of a polymer matrix of between 35% (wt.) to 77.5% (wt.) relative to the total weight of the thermoplastic layer of a substantially amorphous aromatic polyester. Incorporated into this polymer matrix of the at least one thermoplastic layer is an inorganic filler which is present in an amount of between 22% (wt.) to 50% (wt.) relative to the total weight of the thermoplastic layer. The inorganic filler is encased in a carrier resin which is present in an amount of between 0.5% (wt.) to 15% (wt.) relative to the total weight of the thermoplastic layer. The fracturable thermoformable packaging sheet of the present invention may be used to form thermoformed packages having a single product cavity with a snap-open tab or covering and multi-pack type packages having multiple single-serve product cavities where each individual cavities can be easily separated from each other by simply breaking the flange connecting two or more cavities. Each of these packages may optionally include a partial cut and/or crease Sine extending across a portion of the package to facilitate the snapping apart of the two sections of the package.

The present invention provides flexible packaging webs comprising a non-oriented metallized sealant film characterized by a secant modulus of less than 120,000 psi and an elongation at break of greater than 150%, wherein the non-oriented metallized sealant film comprises (1) a thermoplastic base layer of a material selected from the group consisting of ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer, ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer, ethylene/norbornene copolymer, polyamide and blends thereof; (2) a metal coating deposited on the base layer and having an optical density of 1.0 to 3.0; and (3) a heat sealing layer. The packaging webs of the present invention each exhibit an oxygen gas transmission rate of between 0 to 10.0 cm/100 in/24 hours at 73&#xb0; F. (0 to 155 cm/m/24 hours at 23&#xb0; C.) and 0% relative humidity and a water vapor transmission rate of between 0 to 0.1 g/100 in/24 hours at 100&#xb0; F. (0 to 1.55 g/m/24 hours at 38&#xb0; C.) and 90% relative humidity. The sealant films are formed by a blown coextrusion method.

A beverage filter cartridge having a cup, a filter, a lid and at least one beverage ingredient is provided where the cup and lid are sealed together to form an interior chamber which is separated into a first and second compartments by the filter, which is preferably basket or cone shaped, and a beverage ingredient such as coffee is contained inside first compartment, and at least one of the cup, lid and filter contains calcium carbonate in an amount effective to either improve the ability of beverage makers to pierce the cup or to provide a means for the cartridge to absorb COemitted by the ingredient thereby reducing the hold time to packing and reducing the number of defective cartridges.

The multilayer packaging film includes (a) an inner sealant layer comprising a olefin polymer having a Vicat Softening Point greater than 90&#xb0; C.; (b) an oxygen barrier layer; and (c) an outer layer comprising a polymeric layer selected from olefin polymers and polyester homopolymers or copolymers having a silicone or other hydrogen peroxide resistant exterior coating, said outer layer having a Vicat Softening Point greater than 90&#xb0; C.
