Methods and apparatus for implementing a thermal equalizing system for use within a hot runner system of a plastic injection molding apparatus are described. The thermal equalizing system employs at least one thermal fluid circulating circuit which uses a heat transfer fluid to remove excess heat from overheated areas within the injection molding apparatus and/or to add heat to under heated areas within the injection molding apparatus.

Thermal equalizing system for injection molding apparatus

A heated manifold system for use in the distribution of heated plastic resins to the various cavities of injection molds for thermoplastic materials. The manifold main structure consists of modular components of similar cross-section that are nested into each other by employing similar slots cut out at the points of intersection of the components. The thermoplastic resin passages are bored longitudinally in each modular component; transverse bores at each intersection provide resin passages between the longitudinal bores. The system includes heated nozzles which have slots to receive cartridge heaters and heater covers, also spring clips to retain the covers and heaters, which can rotate around the shank of the nozzle to allow easy replacement of the cartridge heaters in the event of failure. Internal sealed liquid-filled channels or highly conductive metal rods are used to equalize the temperature of the nozzle from one extremity to the other.

The parts of the manifold interlock with each other and contain the high pressures generated by the injection molding presses. The components of the manifold are fitted with seals of metals dissimilar to the manifold, and with a higher coefficient of expansion than the manifold material. The system includes heater bushings which channel the plastic materials to the individual cavities and are fitted with a removable tip which can be adjusted to change the overall length of the bushing. A duct structure provides passages for the heated plastic, and electrical heaters extend generally along the passages, secured in channels in the duct structure by heater covers; a snug assembly of the heaters in the channels provides excellent heat transfer, utilizing heater covers of a metal that is mechanically forced to flow into undercuts in the channels.

Assembly of injection molding manifold, nozzles and mold

A chassis housing modular electronic apparatus functions as heat radiator and dissipator due to the corrugated configuration of the upper side. The modules thereof have heat transfer brackets coupling the heat sources with the radiating member of the chassis. Resilient card guides are internally mounted to the chassis for the purpose of guiding the modules to their respective connectors; when the modules are in place the card guides apply pressure to the modules causing a closer contact between the brackets and the chassis, improving the heat conductance. The slidably mounted modules can be easily inserted or withdrawn from the chassis without affecting the heat dissipation properties.

Heat exchanging electronic module housing

A video and audio system for monitoring an area, particularly an area adjacent a door, is disclosed. The system includes a video and audio assembly adapted to be mounted to a door and a video and audio console spaced from the door. Opening of the door is controlled by an electric door strike operated from the console. The assembly is quite compact which facilitates mounting of the assembly to the door. The video camera includes a right angle optical system which contributes to the compactness of the assembly. Both the console and the assembly include audio elements which permit simultaneous two-way communication. A limited number of conductors none of which carry high voltage couple the assembly and the console.

Video and audio security system

A powered lawn mower adapted to slice grass into small pieces and to disperse these pieces on the lawn to provide a mulch therefor to enrich the soil without impairing the appearance of the lawn. The mower includes a multi-bladed, multi-level rotor having a central hub which is driven to rotate about a vertical axis. Three sets of blades radiate from the hub in staggered relation, the first set being at the level of the hub and having the longest blade length. The second set is a step below the hub and has an intermediate blade length, and the third set is a step below the second and has the shortest blade length. The leading edges of the blades are pitched to create an air foil effect producing an updraft to raise the grass and thereby facilitate a cutting action. As the mower is advanced in a horizontal path toward unmown grass, first the upper portions of the grass blades are sliced by the rotating long blades of the first set, then the intermediate portions of the grass blades are sliced by the shorter rotating blades of the second set, and finally the stubble portions of the grass blades are sliced by the still shorter rotating blades of the third set.
