A network interface device includes i) a separator circuit configured to separate data into a plurality of frequency bands, ii) a first multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) processing circuit configured to multiplex the data into a plurality of spatial channels, and iii) a first analog front end circuit. The first analog front end circuit is configured to, for each spatial channel of the plurality of spatial channels: i) combine data in the plurality of frequency bands, including combining data in a first frequency band with data in a second frequency band different from the first frequency band, into a respective combined signal for simultaneous transmission over the plurality of frequency bands, and ii) transmit the combined signal via a transmission medium. Transmission of symbols in the first frequency band is synchronized with transmission of symbols in the second frequency band.

Multi-band transmission system

Signals transmitted via a plurality of frequency bands by a transmitter using respective sets of one or more transmit chains are received at a receiver device. The signals are processed at the receiver using a plurality of receive chains including using a set of first receive chains associated with a first frequency band, and using a set of one or more second receive chains associated with the second frequency band. A number of receive chains in the first set of receive chains is different than a number of transmit chains used by the transmitter device to transmit via the first frequency band. A number of receive chains in the second set of receive chains is different than a number of transmit chains used by the transmitter device to transmit via the second frequency band. MIMO processing is performed on outputs of the set of first receive chains.

Embodiments described herein provide a method for performing multi-level coding in a discrete multitone modulation (DMT) communication system. A plurality of data bits are divided into a first number of un-encoded bits and a set of bits to be encoded. The set of bits to be encoded are encoded into a second number of encoded bits. The first number is different from the second number, and the first number is an even number or an odd number. The first number of un-encoded bits and the second number of encoded bits are mapped into a plurality of constellation points. The plurality of constellation points are transmitted as orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols.

Systems and methods for performing multi-level coding in a discrete multitone modulation communication system

Methods and apparatus for performing full-duplex communications using a G.hn protocol are provided. A second node of a plurality of nodes is selected, by a first node with which to engage in full-duplex communications. A first seed common to the plurality of nodes is retrieved. A search is performed for a second seed assigned to the second node. A first portion of a frame is generated for transmission using a half-duplex communications mode, wherein transmissions using the half-duplex communications mode are detectable by each of the nodes. A first group of subcarriers is loaded with the first set of phases generated using the first seed and a second group of subcarriers is loaded with the second set of phases generated using the second seed. The first portion is transmitted, in the half-duplex communications mode, from the first node using the first and second groups of subcarriers.

Methods and apparatus for performing full-duplex communications using a G.hn protocol

A plurality of information bits are mapped to: (i) a first plurality of constellation symbols corresponding to a first plurality of OFDM subcarriers in an OFDM symbol, and (ii) a second plurality of constellation symbols corresponding to a second plurality of OFDM subcarriers in the OFDM symbol. A first time-domain signal is generated by performing an IDFT based on the first plurality of constellation symbols. A second time-domain signal is generated by performing an IDFT based on the second plurality of constellation symbols. The first time-domain signal is modified by applying a first windowing function corresponding to a first transition width &#x3b2;1. The second time-domain signal by applying a second windowing function having a second transition width &#x3b2;2. An output signal is generated to include a sum of the first time-domain signal and the second time-domain signal, the output signal corresponding to the OFDM symbol.

The receiver includes a receiving (Rx) estimation controller configured to set a bit load of a subcarrier in a bit allocation table (BAT) at a transmitter, a receiving unit configured to receive, from the transmitter, a bit sequence that is loaded to the subcarrier based on the bit load of the subcarrier in the BAT wherein the bit sequence is transmitted through a channel from the transmitter to the receiving unit, and a channel estimator configured to estimate a condition of the channel based on the bit sequence that is loaded to the subcarrier.

A method including selecting a factor based on a number of bits in a codeword and a natural number and generating a model matrix including first and second matrices having data and parity bits. Hamming weights of the model matrix are not constant and Hamming weights of columns of the model matrix follow a statistical distribution dependent upon a codification rate of a channel. A compact matrix is generated by replacing elements of the model matrix equal to: 1 with a pseudo-random positive whole number; and 0 with &#x2212;1. A quasi-cyclic code is generated by replacing in the compact matrix: positive elements with identity matrices; and elements equal to &#x2212;1 with null matrices. A number of rows and columns in each of the identity and null matrices is equal to the factor. The quasi-cyclic code is applied to a word to generate a codeword, which is transmitted on the channel.

Systems and methods for controlling power spectral density (PSD) of a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) transmitter are provided. Data corresponding to multiple transmission streams of the MIMO transmitter is received with precoding circuitry from a constellation encoder. The received data is precoded using the precoding circuitry. The precoded data is sent to a plurality of transmission ports of the MIMO transmitter. Power allocation of the precoded data is adjusted for a first of the plurality of transmission ports independently of adjusting power allocation of the precoded data for a second of the plurality of transmission ports.

Methods and apparatus for individually controlling power spectral density (PSD) per transmission port in MIMO transmitters

A method including generating a matrix. The matrix includes first and second portions. The first portion includes data bits. The second portion includes parity bits and has a triple diagonal structure. The triple diagonal structure includes a first central diagonal, a second central diagonal, and a last row diagonal. Bits of the first central diagonal, the second central diagonal, and the last row diagonal are equal to 1 and a remainder of bits in the triple diagonal structure are equal to 0. The method further includes: determining parity bits based on the matrix; if the matrix is generated to codify data for transmission from a first device to a second device, transmitting the parity bits from the first device to the second device; and if the matrix is generated based on a vector of bits received from the second device, generating a block of data based on the parity bits.

Methods and apparatuses are provided for providing compressed feedback channel state information for beamforming. A beam transmitted by a transmission source is received at a receiving device. The receiving device computes a channel state matrix H of the transmission channel based on the received beam. Using the channel state matrix H, the receiving device performs a singular value decomposition procedure that produces a steering matrix V. The singular value decomposition procedure generates a set of angles (&#x3b8;, &#x3c6;) from which the steering matrix V can be computed. The receiving device transmits the set of angles (&#x3b8;, &#x3c6;) to the transmitting device. From the set of angles (&#x3b8;, &#x3c6;), the transmitting device can compute the steering matrix V.

Systems and methods for compressed feedback and subcarrier grouping for beamforming

A system for transmitting and receiving data includes a physical adaptation block configured to separate the data into a plurality of frequency bands. Each of the frequency bands has an associated symbol time, and each of the associated symbol times is a whole multiple of one half of a smallest symbol time of all of the frequency bands. An analog front end is configured to provide the data in the plurality of frequency bands to a transmission medium.

A system for determining a frequency error of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal having a first frequency. The system includes a plurality of filters configured to output a plurality of second signals, each of the plurality of second signals corresponding to a respective one of a plurality of different frequency bands of the OFDM signal. Each of the plurality of second signals includes a corresponding synchronization symbol associated with the OFDM signal. A Fourier transform circuit is configured to receive the plurality of second signals from each of the plurality of filters and output the plurality of second signals. The system is configured to determine the frequency error of the OFDM signal based on the synchronization symbols of the plurality of second signals.
