The present invention relates to a process for accelerated preparation of linear polymers of polyhydric alcohols using microwave irradiation as the heat element in the presence of specified catalysts.

Process for preparing polymers of polyhydric alcohols

Accordingly, the present invention provides a process for preparing polyglycerol from crude glycerol, wherein the crude glycerol having a glycerol content from about 60 to about 90%, soap content from about 10 to about 15% and methanol content from about 5 to about 20%, the process includes the steps of (a) heating the crude glycerol that contains soap to an elevated temperature for a certain reaction time, (b) acidifying the crude polyglycerol with mineral acid at a specific temperature and (c) centrifuging the acidified crude product obtained from step (b) at specific temperature for a certain duration of time.

The present invention relates to a process for accelerated preparation of polyglycerol from crude glycerol using microwave irradiation as the heat element in the presence of soap as the catalyst. The process includes the steps of (a) heating the crude glycerol that contain soap to an elevated temperature for a certain reaction time by using a microwave technology, (b) acidifying the crude polyglycerol with mineral acid at a specific temperature and centrifuging acidified crude product obtained from step (b) at a specific temperature for a certain duration of time.

The present invention relates to a process for producing oligomers and a method for improving the low temperature properties of fatty alkyl esters by using these oligomers. The oligomers according to the present invention are used as pour point depressant and cloud point reducer to improve the pour point and cloud point of fatty alkyl esters such as isopropyl, butyl, ethyl, ethylhexyl esters particularly fatty acid methyl esters at low temperature.

A process for producing oleochemical polyols comprises the steps of epoxidizing unsaturated oil using an organic acid together with oxygenated water or a per-acid to obtain epoxidized oil; washing the epoxidized oil with salt water to remove unused organic acid together with oxygenated water or a per-acid; neutralizing acidic condition of the washed epoxidized oil with a base; washing the neutralized epoxidized oil with a salt solution until the pH of the neutralized epoxidized oil reaching 6.5 to 7.5 to removed the base residue; drying the washed neutralized epoxidized oil under vacuum; and reacting the washed neutralized dried epoxidized oil with polyhydric alcohol in the presence of boron trifluoride-diethylether complex to produce the oleochemical polyols. The oleochemical polyols are then subjected to the same washing, neutralizing, washing and drying process as in preparing the washed neutralized dried epoxidized oil.

Process to produce polyols

The invention relates to a biodegradable functional fluid composition based on vegetable oil. This functional fluid suitable for lubricant, hydraulic and like fluid comprises palm olein and its by-product generated from fractionation of palm oil. The by-product is esterified by a hindered alcohol prior to blend together with palm olein and additive packages. The hydraulic fluid particularly suited for tropical climate with temperature ranging from 15-40&#xb0; C.

A process for preparing palm-based polyol monomer includes reacting unsaturated fatty acids or its corresponding triglycerides with polyhydric alcohol. In particular, one example uses oleic acid with about 70% purity as the starting material for preparing the polyol monomer. Moreover, another example uses refined, bleached, and deodorized (RBD) palm olein as an alternative to oleic acid as the starting material. The preparation of the polyol monomer involves the production of monoglyceride of unsaturated fatty acids, which was further epoxidized with peracid and finally ring opened with polyhydric alcohols. Such polyol monomer is used as a raw material for the production of various types of polyurethane products.

The present invention relates to an improved process for producing hydroxy fatty acids preferably dihydroxy or polyhydroxy acids from unsaturated fatty acids derived from natural oils and fats. The unsaturated fatty acids extracted from natural vegetable oils or animal fats preferably palm-based oleic acid is hydroxylated or oxidized by peracetic acid which formed in situ from a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and formic acid. A process for producing wax ester comprising of esterifying dihydroxy fatty acid preferably dihydroxystearic acid with at least one alcohol in the presence of lipase as a catalyst which is then remove by filtration. The filtered catalyst could be reuse and provides a number of cost advantages. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the dihydroxystearic acid is derived from palm based oleic acid and the alcohol contains 8 to 18 carbon atoms per molecules.

This invention discloses a rapid method of production for fatty acid amide from fatty acid and urea. One example is the preparation of oleylamide from oleic acid and urea. The yields are high and oleylamide is selectively formed by judicious choice of catalyst. The production of fatty acid amide involves heating fatty acid and urea in a microwave oven with the use of Lewis acid catalyst. The product from the reaction is subjected to solvent extraction with chloroform and then followed by purification with n-hexane, ethanol and acetonitrile via recrystalization method. Such an oleylamide is preferred for application as a mould release agent, slip agent in plastic film production, water repellent and as a raw material for cosmetics production.
