An intravascular filter for use in a body vessel lumen having a longitudinal axis, which may include a plurality of elongate filter members, each of the plurality having a first portion and having a first end and a second end, a plurality of anchoring members, each of the plurality of anchoring members joint to a first end of an elongate filter member, and a filter center portion, each elongate filter member second end joined to the filter center portion, wherein the plurality of elongate filter member first portions may extend radially outward and in a first longitudinal direction when the intravascular filter is disposed in the body vessel lumen, and wherein when the intravascular filter may be disposed in the body vessel lumen, the plurality of elongate filter member first portions are adapted to be moved from extending radially outward and in the first longitudinal direction to extending radially outward and in the second longitudinal direction.

Invertible intravascular filter

Intravascular filtering devices for placement within a blood vessel are disclosed. An intravascular filter in accordance with the present invention may include a plurality of elongated filter legs biased to radially expand from a collapsed position to a conical-shaped position when deployed in a blood vessel. Each of the filter legs may include a hook region configured to engage the vessel wall. The filter legs may vary in length and/or cross-sectional diameter. In certain embodiments, the dimensions and/or orientation of the hook regions can be configured to allow the filter device to be collapsed into a relatively small introducer catheter or sheath.

Low profile IVC filter

Method and apparatus implementing and using techniques for controlling flow in a body lumen, including use of an implantable medical device. The device includes a membrane implantable in a body lumen and invertibly deformable between a first position and a second position. The membrane is invertible in response to the direction of fluid flow through the lumen and can be deformable by fluid flow in the body lumen.

Artificial valve

Packaging for medical devices that impart anti-microbial properties to the surfaces of a medical device is disclosed. In one embodiment, a first compartment stores a medical device and a second compartment stores an anti-microbial agent. When the medical device is ready to be used, the anti-microbial agent from the second compartment flows into the first compartment to impart anti-microbial properties to the surface of the medical device. In another embodiment, components of the package are treated with an anti-microbial agent, which are then transferred or imparted to the surfaces of a medical device stored within the package.

Method and apparatus implementing and using techniques for body lumen closure, including use of an implantable medical closure device. The device includes a flexible strand defining an arcuate form. The strand is deformable upon implantation from a large cross-section condition to a small cross-section condition and has at least two anchoring portions disposed along the strand. The anchoring portions are configured to penetrate a wall of a body lumen such that when the strand is deformed to the small cross-section condition, the wall of the body lumen is disposed inwardly.

Body lumen closure

A stent container has a first wall at the proximal end and a second wall at the distal end. The first wall has an opening therethrough sized for receiving an uncrimped stent therethrough. The opening opens into a chamber which is reducible in size from a first enlarged size to a second reduced size. The chamber in the first enlarged size is sized for receiving an uncrimped stent therein. A plurality of bars extend from the first wall to the second wall. The bars are movable between a first position and a second position. The plurality of bars in the first position and the first and second walls define the periphery of the chamber in the enlarged size. The plurality of bars in the second position and the first and second walls define the periphery of the chamber in the reduced size. A stent disposed in the chamber may be reduced in size by reducing the chamber from the first enlarged size to the second reduced size.

Method and apparatus implementing and using techniques for controlling flow in a body lumen, including use of an implantable medical device. The device includes a membrane implantable in a body lumen and invertably deformable between a first position and a second position. The membrane is invertible in response to the direction of fluid flow through the lumen and can be deformable by fluid flow in the body lumen.

A thrombosis filter configured for placement within a blood vessel lumen. The thrombosis filter of the present invention includes a body element, a plurality of struts, and a surface treatment. The surface treatment, comprised in part of an anti-proliferative or anti-angiogenic drug, is applied to portions of the thrombosis filter in order to regulate neointimal growth around the thrombosis filter and its anchor elements. The thrombosis filter may further contain a first and a second surface treatment layer. The first surface treatment layer possesses endothelial cell growth enhancing properties, while the second surface treatment layer includes the anti-proliferative or anti-angiogenic drug. The surface treatment may alternatively be applied to a substrate, which in turn is applied to the filter.

A kink resistant balloon catheter for insertion into a bodily conduit. The catheter (10) includes a shaft (20), a radiopaque distal tip (35), a dilatation balloon (33) between the shaft and the distal tip, and a removable core wire (40). The shaft includes a kink resistant, cross-wound multifilar (CWMF) coil (21) enclosed by a polymeric sleeve (22) and defining a central lumen (28) for delivery of a fluid inflation medium for inflating the balloon. A fixed core wire (36) interconnects the CWMF coil and the distal tip. In a method for widening constricted bodily passages using the novel balloon catheter, the removable core wire is inserted to assist positioning of the catheter, and is removed to permit rapid inflation and deflation of the balloon.
