Systems and methods for navigation with magnetic field sensors are provided. For example, a system includes a magnetic gradient sensor that measures a magnetic gradient. The system also includes one or more inertial sensors that provide inertial measurements. Additionally, the system includes a magnetic field sensor that measures magnetic fields. Further, the system includes one or more processors that execute computer-readable instructions that direct the one or more processors to estimate a magnetic field based on the measured magnetic gradient and a velocity estimate from the inertial measurements. The computer-readable instructions also direct the one or more processors to calculate an error for the magnetic field and other navigation parameters using an additional magnetic field measurement from the magnetic field sensor.

Navigation with magnetic field sensors

Systems and methods for model based vehicle navigation are provided. In one embodiment, a navigation system: a strapdown navigation processor; a propagator-estimator filter, the navigation processor configured to input inertial sensor data and navigation corrections from the filter to generate a navigation solution comprising a vehicle velocity estimate and a vehicle attitude estimate; a vehicle physics model configured to perform calculations utilizing dynamics equations for a rigid body. The model inputs 1) vehicle state estimates from the navigation solution and 2) platform inputs indicative of forces acting on a vehicle platform. The model outputs a set of three orthogonal predicted translational acceleration measurements based on the inputs. The filter comprises a measurement equation associated with the model and is configured to input the navigation solution and inertial sensor data, and to input and process the translational acceleration measurements as a navigation aid to generate the navigation corrections.

Systems and methods for model based vehicle navigation

Model based inertial navigation for a spinning projectile is provided. In one embodiment, a navigation system comprises: a strapdown navigation processor; a propagator-estimator filter, the processor inputs inertial sensor data and navigation corrections from the filter to generate a navigation solution comprising projectile velocity and attitude estimates; an upfinding navigation aid that generates an angular attitude measurement indicative of a roll angle; and a physics model performing calculations utilizing dynamics equations for a rigid body, the model inputs 1) projectile state estimates from the navigation solution and 2) platform inputs indicative of forces acting on a projectile platform, and outputs a set of three orthogonal predicted translational acceleration measurements based on the inputs; the filter comprises a measurement equation associated with the physics model and the upfinding navigation aid and calculates the navigation corrections as a function of the navigation solution, the predicted translational acceleration measurements, and attitude measurement.

Systems and methods for model based inertial navigation for a spinning projectile

A system implementing a method for generating a navigation output is provided. The method includes determining a gravitational anomaly estimate based at least in part on inertial sensor data and navigation output; generating navigation and sensor corrections that are due at least in part on inherent sensor errors that include vertical accelerometer/gravimeter corrections from at least a navigation output estimate, the gravitational anomaly estimate, and the gravity map data; and generating the navigation output based on the inertial sensor data, gravity map data and the navigation and sensor corrections.
