The present disclosure relates to a rapid method of using a nanostructured zinc oxide (ZnO) catalyst for the photocatalytic degradation of a contaminant such as methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) in waste water. The degradation is carried out under a laser light wherein 100% MTBE gets degraded in a short time such as 20 minutes from the start of the irradiation.

A metal oxide supported palladium catalyst comprised of a &#x3b2;-BiO/BiSnOhetero-junction catalyst support and palladium was developed. The catalyst was synthesized using a sol-gel technique as a nanocrystalline structure. In the presence of fluorene, an oxidant and ultraviolet irradiation, the catalyst converts the hydrocarbon to a mixture of fluorenol/fluorenone oxidation products. The close proximity between &#x3b2;-BiOand BiSnOheterojunction phases in the catalyst is thought to be responsible for the efficient charge separation and catalytic activity. An indirect chemical probe method using active species scavengers elucidated that the photo-oxidation mechanism proceeds via holes and superoxide radical (O.) moieties.

Metal oxide supported palladium catalyst for hydrocarbon oxidation

Photochromic tetrahydroindolizines (THIs) bearing dihydroisoquinoline derivatives as heterocyclic bases and central fluorene groups have been synthesized via different chemical and photochemical pathways. Three alternative pathways for the synthesis of the target photochromic THI-based pyridazinopyrrolo[1,2-b]isoquinolines via in situ trapping with hydrazine hydrate are also provided. High product yields are obtained using different Sonogashira-mediated coupling reactions provided herein. Low temperature multichannel UV-vis and flash photolysis techniques were used to detect the photochromic and kinetic properties of the synthesized system.

Photochromic tetrahydroindolizines

A gold/titanium nanotube-multiwalled carbon nanotube composite (Au/TNT-MWCNT) is presented. The gold composition comprises at least 3% weight of the nanotube composite based on the total weight of the nanotube composite and the gold composition is located in at least one of the wall of the titanium nanotube and the wall of the multiwalled carbon nanotube. Photocatalytic oxidation of neat cyclohexane (CHA) with HOas an oxidant was carried out. Au/TNT-MWCNT catalysts promoted partial CHA oxidation with high conversion (6-7.5%) and selectivity (60-75%) to cyclohexanone.
