The present invention relates to a novel catalyst and a process for a photo-catalytic degradation of ether-based contaminants such as methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) in water using a visible light source. The catalyst composition demonstrated complete degradation of MTBE at a room temperature in a photo-catalytic reaction conducted using a visible light source.

Method of photocatalytic degradation of contaminant in water using visible light source

This invention relates to the process of using a catalyst for the photo-catalytic degradation of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) in water. A Pd/CeO&#x2014;ZnO photo-catalyst is formed to react with MTBE dissolved in water sample and UV irradiated to reduce the MTBE concentration in the water sample. A 95-97% degradation of MTBE is observed using this process.

Process of using a catalyst for photo-catalytic degradation of contaminant in water

The present disclosure relates to a novel photocatalyst composition and a process of using the photocatalyst for the photocatalytic degradation of methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) in water. Palladium doped nano zinc oxide photocatalyst was prepared by zinc nitrate hexahydrate and an ammonium carbonate and the photocatalyst composition demonstrated more than 90-99% degradation of MTBE at room temperatures in a photo catalytic reaction conducted in an oxygen saturated aqueous medium.

This invention relates to the preparation and making use of a catalyst for the photo-catalytic degradation of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) in water. Palladium doped on composite Cerium oxide-zinc oxide (CeO&#x2014;ZnO) photo-catalyst was prepared by wetness incipient impregnation method. This catalyst composition demonstrated 99.6% degradation of MTBE at room temperature in a photo catalytic reaction conducted in oxygen saturated aqueous medium in the presence of UV light.
