Described are methods of membrane distillation for processing organic liquids, hydrophobic distillation membranes useful for membrane distillation methods, and methods of preparing the hydrophobic distillation membranes.

Hydrophobic membranes and membrane distillation methods

Described are ion-exchange membranes that include a porous polymeric membrane and imidazole ion-exchange groups at surfaces of the membrane; ion-exchange membranes and filters that contain the ion-exchange membranes; and methods of using the ion-exchange membranes and filters for separating charged biological molecule from a liquid.

Ion-exchange membranes, filters, and methods

The present disclosure provides a porous polymeric membrane that is coated with a cross-linked polymerized monomer. The coating on the porous polymeric membrane has a charge when it is immersed in an organic liquid. The coated porous polymeric membrane, a filter utilizing the membrane, and a method for treating an organic liquid used for photoresist with the coated porous polymeric membrane to remove metal contaminants from the organic liquid are disclosed.

Coated porous polymeric membranes

A polysulfone membrane is modified so that monomers are wafted onto the surface of the membrane. The polysulfone membranes can be grafted by contacting the membrane with a grafting solution and exposing the membrane to electromagnetic radiation, typically within the ultraviolet portion of the spectrum. The monomers that are grafted are typically anionic or cationic. The grafted membranes can be used for filtering impurities, such as positively and negatively charged particles, from a liquid. Anionic membranes provide improved filtration of negatively charged impurities, while cationic membranes provide improved filtration of positively charged impurities.

Grafted polysulfone membranes

Described are filter membranes coated with a polyamide, filters and filter cartridges that include the filter membranes, and methods of using and making the filter membranes.

Polyamide coated filter membrane, filters, and methods

A polysulfone membrane is modified so that monomers are grafted onto the surface of the membrane. A purifier for removing metal, such as chromium, from an organic solvent is disclosed. The purifier comprises a housing having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet in fluid communication with the fluid inlet; a volume of ion-exchange resin disposed within the housing downstream of the fluid inlet; and a filtration member downstream of the volume of ion-exchange resin, the filtration member comprising at least one microporous membrane having a substantially neutral surface and a microporous polytetrafluoroethylene membrane downstream of the at least one microporous membrane. A method for removing metal, including chromium, from an organic solvent using a purifier of the invention is also disclosed.

Organic solvent purifier and method of using

The present invention is directed to an apparatus for combining a component from a fluid composition with a reactive fluid. The apparatus includes a hollow fiber contactor () having a plurality of hollow fibers contained within a housing. A reactive fluid (), which may be on the shell or lumen side of the hollow fiber membrane, is included in the apparatus and is used for combining with a component from a fluid composition which is on the opposite side of the membrane from the reactive liquid. The reactive liquid combines with one or more components from the fluid composition and can be used for purification of the fluid composition or for the preparation of chemical reagents.

Method and apparatus for treating fluids

A process for removing oxygen from a copper plating solution is provided. The solution is passed through a degasser comprising a shell and hollow hydrophobic fiber porous membranes wherein the shell while a vacuum is drawn on the surfaces of the fibers opposite the fiber surfaces contacted by the solution. Gas passed through the fiber walls while liquid is prevented from infiltrating the fiber pores. The composition of the solution is monitored so that the composition can be retained substantially constant by adding components of the solution as needed.
