There are provided a solution for spray drying having a high transmittance and markedly reduced generation of undissolved matter; and a method for producing a solid dispersion by using the solution for spray drying so that clogging with the undissolved matter is reduced and dissolution is improved. More specifically, there is provided a solution for spray drying comprising hypromellose acetate succinate (HPMCAS) having a hydroxypropoxy molar substitution of 0.40 or more, a solvent, and a drug. There is also provided a method for producing a solid dispersion comprising the step of removing the solvent from the spray drying solution.

The present invention provides solid preparations having two or more colors or a pattern of two or more different colors which can solve the problems of the prior art including the complexity of production processes and the low strength of solid preparations. Fibers are modified by applying a solution of a low substituted cellulose ether having a molar degree of substitution with alkyl and/or hydroxyalkyl groups in the range of 0.05 to 1.0 in an aqueous alkali solution to fibers, and causing the solution borne on fibers to coagulate. The method achieves satisfactory fiber modifications with respect to antistatic property, moisture absorption and shrink resistance without a cumbersome step of dissolution while ensuring safety.

Processes for manufacturing a low-substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose are described that include dipping pulp into an alkaline solution to prepare an alkali cellulose, reacting the alkali cellulose with a hydroxypropylating agent to yield a product in a complete dissolution state, dissolving completely the product in an aqueous medium to provide a product in a complete dissolution state, neutralizing with an acid to yield a precipitate, washing, drying, and pulverizing to yield a powder having a volume-average particle diameter of less than 25 microns which is determined by a dry laser diffraction method, a loose bulk density of 0.29 g/ml or more and less than 0.40 g/ml, and a tapped bulk density of 0.55 g/ml or more.
