A modular electrical control system for installation in an electrical box of a premises includes a switch module configured to control power delivery to at least one external load, the switch module including a multi-position switch device that changes an operational mode of the switch module to off, toggle mode, or dimmer mode, and a removable user interface module configured to connect to the switch module, receive power from the switch module and display an interface in accordance with a setting of the multi-position switch device.

A modular electrical control system includes a switch module, having at least an 'on' state and an 'off' state, configured to draw power from an AC power source and to control power delivery to at least one external load, the switch module including a detector that determines whether a neutral wire is connected to the switch module, and a removable user interface module configured to connect to the switch module and receive power from the switch module, wherein the switch module delivers a first amount of power to the user interface module when the detector determines that the neutral wire is connected to the switch module, and delivers a second amount of power to the user interface module lower than the first amount of power when the detector determines that the neutral wire is not connected to the switch module.

System and method for three-way switching

The disclosure is directed to a wearable device that is configured to secure itself based on signals received from a pulse sensor. According to one implementation, the pulse sensor includes a light source (e.g., a light-emitting diode) and a photo sensor. The light source, under the control of a processor, shines light having a particular wavelength (e.g., green or infrared). The photo sensor generates signals based on light that it senses. For example, when the light from the light source reflects off a person's skin, then the photo sensor will generate signals based on the reflected light that the photo sensor detects. In this manner, the wearable device can accurately determine whether it is being worn by a user (e.g., by taking a photoplethysmogram) and, when necessary, secure the wearable electronic device.

Movement of the personal portable wireless communication device can be sensed using a plurality of movement sensors on the personal portable wireless communication device. A location of the personal portable wireless communication device can be ascertained based on the sensed movement of the personal portable wireless communication device and the measured wireless network signal strengths through Bayesian filtering.

Method and apparatus for ascertaining a location of a personal portable wireless communication device

A portable electronic device includes a motion sensor and a controller. The motion sensor detects an alternating signature motion of a limb of the user about a virtual axis corresponding to the limb. The motion sensor may be an accelerometer capable of detecting three dimensional acceleration. The accelerometer detects acceleration along X, Y and/or Z axes, in which acceleration peaks of the X and Z axes alternate with each other and acceleration of the Y axis remains substantially steady relative to the X and Y axes. The portable electronic device controls at least one function based on the detected alternating signature motion of the limb and/or acceleration along the X, Y and/or Z axes.

Portable electronic device and method for controlling operation thereof based on user motion

Implementations relate to systems and methods for generating compensated speed values for a Doppler-enabled device. A portable wireless device can contain a GPS navigation engine () to capture position data () and Doppler speed data () from positioning satellites. The device can also generate position-based speed values from successive position readings and time intervals, to determine the current speed independently of the Doppler-based speed values. During degraded signal conditions, the Doppler-based speed values can drop to invalid levels. The device incorporates a combiner module () which compares the position-based and Doppler-based speed values and performs combination operations on those quantities to produce a compensated speed value (). By selecting the maximum or otherwise combining those values, extreme excursions in speed values are avoided and accuracy promoted.
