A multi-protocol network and methods for operating the same are provided. The method begins with establishing a wireless-connection between a first transceiver in a first device and a second-transceiver in a second device using a wireless-protocol. First, wired-protocol packets and non-packet data are received and converted in the first device to second-packets compatible with the wireless-protocol by inserting synchronization-bits non-packet data in a preamble. This is initiated by sensing arrival of the preamble without waiting for a start of data. The second-packets are transmitted from the first transceiver to the second, and converted to third-packets compatible with the wired-protocol by removing the synchronization-bits. Latency is improved by initiating/starting a packet to the wired controller before a data portion of the packet is received. The number of synchronization bits is selected so the second-packets are aligned and synchronized with wireless-protocol packets.

Multi-protocol communication network

Systems, methods, and devices provide multi-user communication between wireless devices. Methods include identifying, using processing elements of a software enabled access point, a plurality of wireless devices communicatively coupled to the software enabled access point, aggregating, using the processing elements, data associated with the plurality of wireless devices, and generating, using the processing elements, transmission instructions identifying transmission periods for the plurality of wireless devices. Methods also include generating, using the processing elements, a data frame based on the aggregated data, the data frame comprising a data payload that comprises the aggregated data and the transmission instructions.

Multi-user communication for wireless devices

In general, techniques are described by which to perform secure fine time measurement for wireless communication protocols. An initiating station comprising wireless communication circuitry may be configured to perform the techniques. The wireless communication circuitry may be configured to receive, in accordance with a wireless networking protocol for communicating between the initiating station and a responding station, a first fine time measurement specifying a first time. The wireless communication circuitry may also be configured to receive, in accordance with the wireless networking protocol and for the corresponding first time, a first message integrity code. The wireless communication circuitry may next be configured to authenticate, based on the first message integrity code, the responding station to establish that the fine time measurement is from a trusted responding station.

Secure fine time measurement for wireless communication protocols

A multi-protocol network and methods for operating the same are provided. A method can include wireless device operations, including receiving a trigger communication that identifies available random access resource units (RA RUs), the RA RUs being portions of transmission channel for a wireless system. In response to a back-off value and a number of available RA RUs, selecting or not selecting one RA RU as a transmission RA RU. In response to not selecting a transmission RA RU, monitoring for wireless responses following the trigger communication to determine unselected RA RUs, designating one unselected RA RUs as an alternate RA RU; and transmitting uplink data on the alternate RA RU. The unselected RA RUs comprise any RA RUs that remain after other wireless devices have selected RA RUs in response to the trigger communication. Corresponding devices and systems are also disclosed.

Devices, systems and methods for accessing random access resource units of a wireless channel

Devices, systems and methods generate a packet including a first preamble and a narrow band packet. Embodiments assign a first frequency band to the first preamble and assign a second frequency band to the narrow band packet. The second frequency band is a first sub-band of the first frequency band. Embodiments transmit the packet by transmitting the first preamble across the first frequency band and transmitting the narrow band packet across the second frequency band. The narrow band packet includes a second preamble and narrow band packet data.

Devices, systems and methods for narrow band communications within protocol having frequency multiplexing

Embodiments can include methods, devices and systems which can transmitting a preamble across a first channel according to a first communication protocol; sequentially transmitting signal values in a plurality of narrow bands; monitoring the narrow bands for response communications; and upon detecting response communications on at least one of the narrow bands, establishing communications across at least one of the narrow bands. Each narrow band can be a different portion of the first channel.

Devices, systems and methods for extending the range of a wireless communication system

According to embodiments, methods, devices and systems can include monitoring all of a first channel for a first monitoring period. After the first monitoring period, monitoring at least one narrow band for at least a first narrow band signal. In response to detecting the first narrow band signal, establishing a network connection over the narrow band, wherein the at least one narrow band has a frequency range less than one half that of the first channel.

Devices, systems and methods for wireless communication system employing overlapping frequency bands

According to embodiments, methods, devices and systems can include generating packet data for a narrow band packet. Transmitting first preamble data across a first channel followed by the narrow band packet with a second preamble across at least one resource unit (RU). The RU can have a smaller bandwidth than the first channel and occupy a portion of the first channel. The first preamble can be configured to enable detection of a packet transmitted in the first channel, and the second preamble is configured to enable detection of a packet transmitted in the RU without the first preamble.

Aspects of a method and system for scheduling multiple concurrent transmissions during a contention access period in a wireless communications network are presented. Aspects of the system comprise communicating devices (DEVs) within a piconet that are operable to derive a neighborhood map of a piconet. The neighborhood map information may enable a plurality of DEVs to concurrently transmit signals during a given channel time allocation (CTA) time slot. The ability for multiple DEVs to transmit signals concurrently during a single CTA time slot may increase spectral reuse within a wireless communication medium. In another aspect the system, the neighborhood map information may enable individual DEVs to set clear channel assessment (CCA) thresholds. Individual DEVs may utilize CCA threshold information to determine when to transmit signals to one or more destination DEVs and/or at what rate to transmit data via the signals.

Method and system for scheduling multiple concurrent transmissions during a contention access period in a wireless communications network

Techniques for controlling transmissions in wireless communication networks are described. In one aspect, transmission control for a mesh network may be achieved by ranking mesh points or stations in the mesh network. In one design, the rank of a first station in the mesh network may be determined. At least one station of lower rank than the first station in the mesh network may be identified. At least one transmission parameter for the at least one station of lower rank may be set by the first station. At least one transmission parameter value may be selected for each station based on the rank, QoS requirements, amount of traffic, and/or achievable data rate for that station and may be sent (e.g., via a probe response message) to the station.

Transmission control for wireless communication networks

Traffic streams through mesh points in a mesh network are managed. Data arriving at the mesh point are aggregated in packet queues. The packet queues segregate arriving data by the data's Quality of Service (QoS) requirement. An appropriate communication channel is selected. The communication channel is accessed through a contention access schema. An M-Request-To-Send (MRTS) message is sent to potential receiving mesh points with receiving mesh points responding with an M-Clear-to-Send (MCTS) message. Data from the packet queues is transmitted to the next mesh point. A mesh point power save mode allows battery operated mesh points to sleep preserving power.

Method and apparatus for managing data flow through a mesh network

Protocol adaptation layer for wireless communications. Communication devices that include one or more radio modules operable in accordance with multiple communication protocols establish communications using one communication protocol and then switch to another communication protocol. This switching to another communication protocol may be performed based on a variety of factors including effectuating communications of higher throughput, supporting uni-directional communications vs. bi-directional communications, or any other desired factor. In some embodiments, various communication devices include two radio modules that are each implemented to operate in accordance with one particular communication protocol. Alternatively, a multi-protocol capable radio module may support and operate in accordance with more than one communication protocol. Examples of possible communication protocols include those compliant with Bluetooth, IEEE 802.11, and/or 802.15.3c.

Protocol adaptation layer for wireless communications

Aspects of a method and system for carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) with directional transmission are presented. Aspects of the system may include a communicating device (DEV), which transmits a portion of a PDU utilizing omnidirectionally transmitted signals and a subsequent portion of the PDU utilizing directionally transmitted signals. In an exemplary system the communicating DEV may transmit a frame, which represents a physical layer PDU. The frame may comprise a physical layer convergence procedure (PLCP) preamble that is transmitting utilizing omnidirectionally transmitted signals (omni preamble), a PLCP header that is transmitted utilizing omnidirectionally transmitted signals (omni header), a PLCP preamble that is transmitted utilizing directionally transmitted signals (directional preamble) and a physical layer service data unit (PSDU) field, or data, field, which is transmitted utilizing directionally transmitted signals (directional data). In another exemplary system, the communicating DEV may transmit PDUs utilizing directional signal transmission.

Aspects of a method and system for optimal beamforming in a wireless network are presented. Aspects of the system may include one or more processors for use in a requesting communication device wherein the one or more processors may be operable to request a transmission time slot allocation. A determination may be made by a coordinating communication device as whether to assign a sector transmission time slot and/or beamforming transmission time slot to the requesting communication device based on the transmission time slot allocation request. The one or more processors may be operable to receive the assigned sector transmission time slot and/or beamforming transmission time slot.
