This disclosure provide various techniques for improving the quality of a signal. By integrating phase-shifting circuitry with a transmit/receive (T/R) switch, insertion loss may be reduced while decreasing space consumed on an integrated circuit or printed circuit board. In particular, embodiments disclosed herein include a transmitter and a receiver, each including one or more differential amplifiers coupled to a first inductor, and a switching network coupled to a second inductor and one or more phase-shifting circuitries. A differential interface of the differential amplifiers may enable integration of a stage of the phase shifter (e.g., a 180 degree stage) with the T/R switch, such that a single circuit may operate as the phase shifter and the T/R switch. This implementation may reduce the number of T/R switches and phase shifter stages in the phased array system, reducing the overall insertion loss experienced by the phased array system.

Phased array systems and methods with phase shifter

This disclosure is directed to power gain variation compensation of Radio Frequency (RF) receivers based on temperature variations. An RF receiver may include amplification circuitry having a chain of multiple amplifiers and/or passive elements. Multiple distributed and/or lumped attenuators disposed at different points between amplifiers and/or passive elements of the chain may attenuate a received RF signal to compensate for gain variations of the multiple amplifiers and/or passive elements caused by a temperature change. Accordingly, the distributed and/or lumped attenuators may improve linear response of the amplifiers and/or passive elements and signal-to-noise and distortion ratio of RF signals received at the receiver.

A system and apparatus is provided to reduce signal routing, area and signal loss in double-pole, double-throw (DPDT) switch implementations in wireless and millimeter-wave front ends. A cyclic staggered arrangement of receivers, transmitters and antenna ports connecting with DPDT switches reduce signal cross-over and allow for compact, low-loss multi-antenna configurations.

Systems and methods are provided for millimeter-wave (MMW) communication, the system includes a transceiver chip to generate and to receive signals. An interface is used to communicate the signals between the transceiver chip and one or more active antenna modules. The signals include modulated MMW signals and control signals. The transceiver chip includes baseband circuitry, up and down conversion mixers, and RF front-end circuitry. An active antenna module receives a first modulated MMW signal from the interface for transmission via antennas and to receive a second modulated MMW signal from the antennas for transmission through the interface to the transceiver chip.

Multi-chip millimeter-wave interface

A bidirectional time-division duplexing transceiver circuit includes a first and a second bidirectional phase-shift circuit, and a bidirectional amplifier circuit including a first amplifier circuit and a second amplifier circuit. The first amplifier circuit and the second amplifier circuit are coupled via double-pole-double-throw (DPDT) switches to radio-frequency (RF) antennas and the first and the second bidirectional phase-shift circuits. The (DPDT) switches enable the first amplifier circuit and the second amplifier circuit to be operable simultaneously as transmit (TX) path amplifiers in a first time slot and as a receive (RX) path amplifiers in a second time slot.

An electronic device includes circuitry configured to determine an antenna operation mode for one or more antenna arrays. The circuitry is further configured to control the one or more antenna arrays to operate in a combined antenna mode via a Wilkinson combiner. The circuitry is also configured to control the one or more antenna arrays to operate in an isolated antenna mode via a single-pole, multi-throw switch.

A TX/RX switch includes a first switching device connectable with a power amplifier and a second switching device connectable with a low noise amplifier. Both the first switching device and the second switching device are operating in an ON state in transmit mode to provide substantial linearity including no significant alternating current signal swing across any two nodes of the first switching device and the second switching device in the ON state.
