An electronic component housing defining an EMI shield and an ESD protection cover includes a polymeric core formed from a first polymeric material with a reinforcement material and an overmolded outer layer formed from a second polymeric material with between about 2 wt. % and about 30 wt. % graphene. The reinforcement material provides structural reinforcement to the electronic component housing and is at least one of carbon fiber, glass, talc, mineral filler, and combinations thereof, the overmolded outer layer defines a housing skin disposed on the polymeric core.

Polymer-graphene electronic component housing

A scratch and ultraviolet resistant film includes a polymer-carbon composite film configured to be applied as a thin film on a substrate. The polymer-carbon composite film includes a resin such as a thermoset resin and/or a thermoplastic resin, and between about 0.25 wt. % and about 5 wt. % graphene disposed in the resin. In addition, the polymer-carbon composite film applied as the thin film on the substrate has a thickness between about 0.2 mm and about 1 mm.

Scratch and UV resistant films

A composite structure includes a foam core formed from a first polymer and between about 0.5 wt. % and about 2.5 wt. % graphene. The foam core has an average pore size between about 25 μm and about 75 μm, and a cell density between about 4×10cells/mmand about 6×10cells/mm. Also, an overmolded skin formed from a second polymer and between about 0.25 wt. % and about 5.0 wt. % graphene is disposed on the foam core. A method of manufacturing a composite structure includes injection molding a foam core from a first polymer containing between about 0.25 wt. % and about 5.0 wt. % graphene, and injection molding an overmolded skin from a second polymer containing graphene between about 0.25 wt. % and about 5.0 wt. % graphene.

Polymer-graphene energy absorbing composite structures and methods of manufacture

A method to prepare a composite laminate object containing an extrusion grade 7xxx Al substrate and a fiber-reinforced polypropylene layer adhesively laminated to the substrate; is provided. The process includes shaping and cutting an extruded 7xxx aluminum to a profile, assembling a layered arrangement of the 7xxx Al profile as substrate, an adhesive film and a fiber reinforced polypropylene preform, heating the layered arrangement to a temperature of 160-175&#xb0; C. to melt the polypropylene and activate the adhesive film, applying pressure to at least a surface of the fiber reinforced polypropylene preform to mold the preform to the shape of the extruded 7xxxAl substrate and obtain a semi-finished laminate object, cooling the semi-finished laminate object to 90&#xb0; C., optionally, cooling the semi-finished laminate object to room temperature for inventory storage; heat treating the semi-finished laminate object at 90&#xb0; C. for 2 to 8 hours; and then heat treating the semi-finished laminate object at 130&#xb0; C. to 150&#xb0; C. for 8 to 16 hours; and cooling the heat treated object to obtain the composite laminate object.
