A system for a vehicle includes a modem and a telematics controller. The modem is configured to operate in a normal service mode in which the modem connects to a mobile network whenever possible according to a subscriber identity module (SIM) configuration of the modem, and in an emulated limited service mode in which the modem emulates network conditions of a limited service mode by refraining from providing data or voice connectivity outside of emergency services. The telematics controller is programmed to responsive to receipt of an indication to transition from the normal service mode to the limited service mode, wait for any active data or voice connections to the mobile network to terminate, and responsive to termination of any active data or voice connections to the mobile network, transition the modem from the normal mode to the emulated limited service mode.

Vehicle cellular connectivity control

A system includes a processor configured to attempt a packet-data connection for a first number of attempts, including a predetermined short delay between each unsuccessful attempt. The processor is also configured to delay for a longer predetermined delay determined based on a predetermined long delay less a total duration of preceding failed connection attempts, responsive to another failed connection attempt after failures for the first number of attempts, and repeat the attempt and delay steps until a connection is established.

Method and apparatus for mobile session establishment with resilient connection strategy

Responsive to detecting transition from an eCall Plus mode to an eCall Only mode, and to acknowledgement from a service delivery network (SDN) of an alert of the transition sent to the SDN by a telematics controller, the telematics controller reattaches to a network in eCall Only mode. Responsive to transition from eCall Only mode to eCall Plus mode, the controller reattaches to the network in eCall Plus mode.
