A wireless device is configured to select a beam and/or an antenna based on detection a detected position and/or orientation of the device relative to a remote device. The device obtains motion data indicating a change in position or orientation of the wireless device. The device determines its pose relative to the remote device. The device accesses a coverage map that associates, for each potential pose for the device with respect to the remote device: an antenna for communicating with the remote device and/or a beam for communicating with the remote device. The device selects a particular antenna and/or a particular beam for communicating with the remote device; and causes transmission or reception of data to or from the remote device by the particular antenna and/or the particular beam.

Sensor-assisted antenna and beam selection for wireless communications

A connected car and an onboard user equipment (UE) may establish independent cellular connections and may also establish a connection between each other. The UE establishes a first cellular link between the UE and a first network, establishes a connection with a connected car, wherein the connected car has a second cellular link between the connected car and a second network, evaluates one or more conditions and declares one of the first cellular link or the connection with the connected car a primary network interface for the UE based on, at least, the one or more conditions.

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for a wireless device to encode channel state information (CSI), e.g., enhanced type II CSI. A common frequency basis may be selected. Spatial-frequency coefficients, frequency basis related information, and/or spatial basis related information may be determined. Feedback overhead reduction for precoders under high rank spatial channels

The exemplary embodiments relate to inter-radio access technology (iRAT) signaling reduction for a user equipment (UE). The UE may identify an inter-radio access technology (iRAT) event and determine that a predetermined condition is satisfied. The predetermined condition may be based on identifying a predetermined number of iRAT events within a predetermined time window. The UE may then implement a mechanism for iRAT signaling reduction based on the predetermined condition.

Signaling reduction for inter-radio access technology transitions

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for improving efficiency in IMS registration and management in a wireless communication device, such as a UE. In some scenarios, the UE may, while implementing IMS services (e.g. for VoLTE) over a wireless communication link with a cellular network, determine that the wireless communication link is not performing at an acceptable level. In response, the UE may start a timer and buffer IMS SIP signaling messages while the timer is running. If the wireless communication link performance is restored to an acceptable level before expiration of the timer, the UE may transmit the buffered IMS SIP signaling messages. If the timer expires prior to restoration of the wireless communication link, the buffered messages may be cleared, and the UE may locally deregister from IMS registration and IMS PDN. In some scenarios, select IMS SIP signaling messages may be omitted or removed from the buffer.

Intelligent IMS based on real-time baseband feedback

This disclosure relates to techniques for opportunistically depowering receiver chains of a wireless device. Based on control information, a device may determine whether the current number of active receiver chains can be reduced while maintaining a target achievable code rate for a period of data reception associated with the control information. Additionally, the device may generate and use a lookup table to determine whether to depower receiver chains, and which receiver chains to depower.

Opportunistic RX chain depowering based on allocated rank and MCS

This disclosure relates to performing grouped MIMO communications in a cellular communication system. A cellular base station may select a precoding matrix for transmitting a downlink signal to a wireless device via a MIMO channel. The selected precoding matrix may have unequal weights for different MIMO subchannels. The downlink signal may be precoded using the selected precoding matrix. The precoded downlink signal may be transmitted to the wireless device via the MIMO channel. The wireless device may receive and decode the downlink signal.

Group MIMO

This disclosure relates to radio link monitoring techniques. According to some embodiments, a wireless device may establish a radio link with a cellular base station according to a radio access technology. The base station may provide reference signals, control signals, and data signals to the wireless device via the radio link. The wireless device may perform radio link monitoring of the radio link using characteristics of decoding performance for one or more of the control signals and the data signals. Performing radio link monitoring of the radio link may include determining whether the radio link is in-sync or out-of-sync and determining whether radio link failure has occurred.

Radio link monitoring using downlink control and data decoding performance characteristics

Methods, apparatuses and computer readable media are described that configure wireless circuitry in a wireless communication device. The wireless communication device establishes a connection via one or more component carriers to a wireless network using wireless circuitry that includes multiple radio frequency receive signal chain. The wireless communication device monitors traffic activity and measures downlink radio frequency receive signal conditions for each component carrier. The wireless communication device reconfigures the wireless circuitry to use a number of RF receive signal chains that matches a maximum supportable modulation and coding scheme (MCS) value for each component carrier to MCS values assigned by the wireless network to the respective component carrier. The wireless communication device reduces the number of RF receive signal chains for a component carrier only when reliable decoding of the physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) and/or the physical hybrid automatic repeat request indicator channel (PHICH) can be reliably decoded.

Dynamic wireless circuitry configuration for carrier aggregation component carriers

According to techniques described herein, a UE (which may be link budget limited) may be connected to a network using a first RAT. The UE may be configured to determine a first resource requirement for communication on the network using the first RAT and a second resource requirement for communication on the network using a second RAT. The UE may be further configured to trigger a re-selection to the second RAT in response to the UE determining that the second RAT is preferred over the first RAT based, at least in part, on a comparison of the first and second resource requirements.
