An electrically conductive polyamide composition includes specific amounts of a polyamide-6, a poly(phenylene ether), talc, a hydrogenated block copolymer, carbon nanotubes, and a compatibilizing agent for the polyamide-6 and the poly(phenylene ether). The composition can contain little or no polyamide-6,6. The composition is useful for fabricating articles including automotive exterior side sill panels, and automotive exterior door panels.

Conductive polyamide composition and article

A fiber is prepared by melt extruding a composition including specific amounts of a polyamide and a polyphenylene ether along with a compatabilizer. Particular combinations produce fibers having a desirable combination of good tenacity and low denier per fiber. Compared to a fiber prepared from polyamide alone, the present fiber exhibits improved heat resistance and flame resistance.

Disclosed herein is a reinforced composition comprising: 55 to 80 wt % of a compatibilized blend of a polyphthalamide and a poly(phenylene ether) wherein said compatibilized blend is formed from a mixture of polyphthalamide and poly(phenylene ether) in a ratio of between 1.5:1 and 7.0:1, and a functionalizing agent in an amount sufficient to effect compatibilization; and 20 to 45 wt % of a nylon glass fiber, wherein the composition contains less than 0.1 wt % of phosphinates and less than 0.1 wt % of impact modifiers and weight percent is based on the total weight of the composition.

Reinforced polyphthalamide/poly(phenylene ether) composition

A composition is prepared by melt blending specific amounts of a polyamide, a flame retardant that includes brominated polystyrene, a polymeric flame retardant synergist, and a compatibilizing agent. The polymeric flame retardant synergist can be a poly(arylene ether), a poly(arylene ether)-polysiloxane block copolymer, or a mixture thereof. The composition is useful for molding automotive and electrical parts.

Flame retardant polyamide composition, method, and article

A polyamide-poly(arylene ether) composition is prepared by melt blending specific amounts of components including a polyamide, a poly(arylene ether), a hydrogenated block copolymer of an alkenyl aromatic monomer and a conjugated diene, a compatibilizing agent, and partially saponified ester of a C-Caliphatic carboxylic acid and a C-Caliphatic alcohol. The composition is useful for molding articles that have a significantly reduced incidence of the cosmetic defect known as 'silver streaks'.

Polyamide/poly(arylene ether) composition, article, and method

Disclosed herein is a masterbatch comprising the reaction product of 75 to 94.5 weight percent of a poly(arylene ether), 5 to 24.5 weight percent of a polyamide and 0.5 to 2.5 weight percent of citric acid, wherein weight percent is based on the combined weight of the poly(arylene ether), polyamide and citric acid. Methods of making and using the masterbatch are also described.

An article comprising a paint film disposed on at least a portion of a thermoplastic section. The thermoplastic section is made of a thermoplastic composition. The thermoplastic composition has a compatibilized blend of a poly(arylene ether) and a polyamide, an electrically conductive carbon black, and an impact modifier. The electrically conductive carbon black has agglomerates and the agglomerates have an average agglomerate size greater than or equal to 30 square micrometers. The weight ratio of electrically conductive carbon black to polyamide is greater than or equal to 0.043.

Article made from a poly(arylene ether)/polyamide composition

A thermoplastic composition comprising a compatibilized blend of poly(arylene ether) and polyamide; a reinforcing fiber; and an electrically conductive filler. Greater than 50 weight percent of the polyamide, based on the total weight of the polyamide, is polyamide-6. The thermoplastic composition is useful in articles that are painted by electrostatic painting.

Conductive thermoplastic compositions, methods of manufacture and articles derived from such compositions

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method for a thermoplastic resin composition, composed of a polyphenylene ether and a polyamide, having an electric conductivity, and excellent in balance of fluidity and impact strength, by producing with a specific process, and to provide the thermoplastic resin composition obtained thereby. SOLUTION: The thermoplastic resin composition is composed of the following component (A)-(E), wherein a weight ratio of (A)/(B) is 5/95-70/30, an amount of (C) is effective to phase-solvate (A) and (B), the amount of (D) is 0.8-10 pts.wt. per the total 100 pts.wt. of (A) and (B), and the amount of component (E) is 5-40 pts.wt. per the total 100 pts.wt. of (A) and (B). The production method for the thermoplastic resin composition is provided. (A): a polyphenylene ether, (B): a polyamide. (C): a phase-solvating agent, (D): an electrically conductive carbon black and/or a fine fibrous carbon, and (E) an improving agent for shock resistance.

Method for making a conductive thermoplastic composition

A composition comprises an impact modifier and a compatibilized blend of a poly(arylene ether) and an aliphatic-aromatic polyamide. The polyamide is composed of dicarboxylic acid units comprising 60 to 100 mol % of terephthalic acid units and diamine units comprising 60 to 100 mol % of 1,9-nonanediamine units and/or 2-methyl-1,8-octanediamine units. The polyamide has an amine end group content greater than 45 micromoles per gram of polyamide.

Vibration dampening compositions and methods thereof

Thermoplastic resin composition are provided that comprise a thermoplastic resin and an amount of antioxidant effective to increase the adhesion of paint to an article made from the composition. Also provided are methods to improve the paint adhesion of articles wherein the articles have been subjected to a temperature of at least about 330&#xb0; F. for period of at least about 10 minutes. In a preferred embodiment, the antioxidant, also known as a stabilizer, or mixture of stabilizers is selected from the group consisting of the phenolic antioxidants, the 3-arylbenzofuranones, the hindered amine stabilizers, the ultraviolet light absorbers, the alkaline metal salts of fatty acids, the hydrotalcites, the epoxydized soybean oils, the hydroxylamines, the tertiary amine oxides, thermal reaction products of tertiary amine oxides, the thiosynergists, and mixture containing at least one of the foregoing.

Method for improving the paint adhesion of compatibilized polyphenylene ether-polyamide compositions

A conductive thermoplastic composition is prepared by a method in which poly (arylene ether) and, optionally, a portion of polyamide are added to a first feed port, polyamide is added to a second feed port, and a concentrate of conductive carbon black in polyamide is added to the second feed port or a third feed port. Whereas preparation of conductive poly(arylene ether)/polyamide compositions has typically required an extruder having at a screw length to diameter ratio of at least 40, the present method allows the use of extruders having a screw length to diameter ratio less than 38 and as low as 20 or lower. The conductive thermoplastic composition prepared by the method exhibits high conductivity and high impact strength, and it is useful for molding articles such as electrostatically-paintable automotive exterior panels.

Method of forming a conductive thermoplastic composition

Inclusion of relatively small amounts of organic ionic species, such as calcium stearate, in the preparation of an electrically conductive polymer composite composition provides a composition having enhanced electrical properties relative to the composite composition lacking the added organic ionic species. As a result of this enhancement, normally insulating materials which rely upon a conductive filler to render them electrically conductive, can be made to achieve a given level of conductivity using less of the conductive filler than would otherwise be required. As a result, the adverse effects of the conductive filler on the polymer's physical properties can be minimized while maintaining a high level of electrical conductivity.
