A device for increasing a user's awareness of his or her breathing includes a clip configured to attach to a user's nose, a hinge connected to the clip, an air deflection plate pivotably connected to the hinge and one or more sensors coupled with the air deflection plate. The air deflection plate is configured to pivot relative to the clip to at least partially deflect air flow into or out of a nostril while the air deflection plate is exterior to the nostril and the clip is attached to the user's nose. The one or more sensors are configured to sense data pertaining to the user's breathing through the nostril. A method for increasing breathing awareness includes, in response to air flow across an air deflection plate pivotably coupled with a clip gripping a user's nose, receiving breathing data with one or more sensors coupled with the air deflection plate.

Conscious rhythmic breathing sensing

A valve for use in connection with microfluidic devices includes a safety feature such that flow is controlled even in the case of a loss of power, thus having applications in critical applications such as the precise delivery of drugs overtime. The valve may be used in connection with multiple tubes delivering drugs, and may be used with a pump, such as an electrochemical pump, to provide the force to move the fluids containing drugs for delivery. In certain applications, more than one medicine may be delivered and metered independently using a single pump with multiple reservoirs and valves.

The device includes a clip, an air deflection plate, and a hinge connecting the air deflection plate to the clip. The air deflection plate may rotate about the hinge, relative to the clip. The air deflection plate may at least partially occlude a user's nostril when the clip is attached to the user's nose.

A magnetohydrodynamic microfluidic system and a method of pumping a fluid using a magnetohydrodynamic system are disclosed. The method includes applying at least one of an electric current and an electric voltage to a first modified electrode and a second electrode to generate an ionic current between the first modified electrode and the second electrode and to cause a current carrying species to move to or from the modified electrode, applying a magnetic field perpendicular to an ionic current vector, the magnetic field and the ionic current combining to induce flow of the fluid in a direction perpendicular to the magnetic field and the ionic current vector, and maintaining fluid flow by recharging the modified electrode.

The invention provides a cost-effective and in-situ method for applying an LbL coating onto a silicone hydrogel contact lens directly in a lens package.
