An air conditioner includes at least one compressor, an outlet pipe, an inlet pipe, and at least one bypass pipe. Oil and/or refrigerant discharged from the at least one compressor flows through the outlet pipe. The inlet pipe receives the oil and/or refrigerant flown through the outlet pipe and allows the oil and/or refrigerant to flow to the at least one compressor. The at least one bypass pipe is connected to the at least one compressor and allow bypass flows of the oil and/or refrigerant from the at least one compressor to the outlet pipe.

An air conditioner is provided, in which some of a plurality of outdoor heat exchangers implement a defrosting operation and others implement a heating operation. The air conditioner includes a compressor to compress refrigerant, a hot gas pipe to which a part of the refrigerant compressed in the compressor is moved, a 4-way valve to which the remaining refrigerant compressed in the compressor is moved, an indoor heat exchanger in which the refrigerant, having passed through the 4-way valve, undergoes heat exchange with indoor air, and a plurality of outdoor heat exchangers, some of which implement a heating operation as the heat-exchanged refrigerant from the indoor heat exchanger is moved therethrough while others implement a defrosting operation as the refrigerant having passed through the hot gas pipe is moved therethrough.

An air conditioner includes a compressor, a first heat exchanger, and a first pipe configured to allow refrigerant to flow from the first heat exchanger. A bypass pipe is branched off from the first pipe and is configured to expand refrigerant flowing through the bypass pipe. A second heat exchanger is configured to allow the expanded refrigerant of the bypass pipe to heat-exchange with the refrigerant flowing along the first pipe. A second pipe couples the second heat exchanger to the compressor so that the refrigerant expanded by the bypass pipe and heat-exchanged at the second heat exchanger can be introduced into the compressor.

Air conditioner and method of controlling the same

An air conditioner includes a plurality of compressors, a plurality of oil separators, a plurality of oil collection pipes, a common inlet pipe, and a plurality of branch inlet pipes. The oil separators are connected to outlets of the compressors for separating a refrigerant and/or oil discharged from the compressors. The oil collection pipes are respectively connected to the oil separators for collecting oil separated by the oil separators. An air conditioner including an indoor heat exchange unit to perform a heat exchange process by the supply and absorption of heat through the circulation of a first refrigerant, at least one outdoor heat exchange unit to perform a heat exchange process by the absorption and supply of heat through the circulation of a second refrigerant, and an intermediate connection unit to perform a heat exchange between the first refrigerant and the second refrigerant.

Disclosed herein is a control method for a multiple heat pump. In the control method, when one of multiple indoor units operates in the heating mode and the other indoor units shut down, electronic expansion valves of the shutdown indoor units are controlled to have an opening degree higher than a standard opening degree if an outlet temperature of compressors is higher than a preset temperature, so as to permit a liquid refrigerant, remaining in the shutdown indoor units, to be more readily recovered to the compressors. This eliminates a refrigerant shortage phenomenon of the compressors and prevents deterioration of heating performance as well as reduction of life-span of the compressors.

Disclosed is a heat exchanger including a plurality of tubes through which refrigerants flow, the tubes being spaced away from each other, and a plurality of fins through which the tubes are perpendicularly inserted, the fins being spaced away from each other at a predetermined distance, each of the fin having more than four peak portions and more than four valley portions that are alternately disposed. Heights or depths of at least two peak portions or at least two valley portions being different from each other.

Disclosed is a heat exchanger including: a plurality of tubes through which refrigerants flow, the tubes being spaced away from one another; and a fin through which the tubes are perpendicularly inserted, and having a fin collar for supporting the inserted tube, a seat for supporting an outer circumference of a lower end of the fin collar, and three or more peak portions and three or more valley portions that are alternately disposed at an area defined between the tubes to cause air flow to vary at an area defined between the fin collar, heights of at least two peak portions or depths of at least two valley portions being different from each other.

Disclosed herein is a control method for four-way valves of a multiple heat pump. In the control method, if even at least one of four-way valves of respective outdoor units is not switched to a desired mode upon switching of all of the four-way valves to the desired mode, the other four-way valves, switched to the desired mode, is switched to an opposite direction of the desired mode, and then all of the four-way valves are switched again to the desired mode, thereby simply and rapidly correcting switching error of the four-way valves, resulting in normal operation of the multiple heat pump.

A heat exchanger includes a plurality of tubes through which refrigerants flow, the tubes being spaced apart from each other, and a plurality of fins spaced apart from each other at a predetermined distance. Each of the fins has fin collars through which the tubes are perpendicularly inserted, seat portions concentrically formed around outer circumferences of the fin collars and provided with laterally-opened front and rear portions, more than two peak portions, and more than two valley portions, the peak and valley portions being alternately disposed to provide airflow variation.

A micro-multi channel heat exchanger includes a lower header having a hollow for receiving refrigerant and an upper header opposite to the lower header. A plurality of tubes are arranged in a length direction of the upper and lower headers at fixed intervals, each having opposite ends fixed to the upper header and the lower header. A plurality of channels are formed in the tubes and elongated to be in communication with the hollows of the two headers. Each channel has an area of a section, parallel to a length direction of the two headers, reducing at a fixed ratio as the channels go from an air inlet side to an air outlet side. A plurality of fins are located between the tubes for heat exchange with the air.

A heat exchanger with small-diameter refrigerant tubes is disclosed. The heat exchanger has a plurality of air guide fins assembled with each other by one or more vertical rows of refrigerant tubes passing through the air guide fins. In the heat exchanger, each of the refrigerant tubes is a small-diameter tube having an outer diameter of not larger than 6 mm. In addition, four rows of offset surfaces are vertically formed on each of the air guide fins at a position between two tubes of each vertical row of refrigerant tubes through a pressing process such that the four rows of offset surfaces are arranged along a transverse direction of the fin. Four rows of vertical slits are each formed by two air guide openings defined between opposite side edges of each of the offset surfaces and the land surface of the air guide fin. In the heat exchanger, the number of the slits is reduced, in addition to changing the shape and dimension of the slits so as to allow the slits to be compatible with the small-diameter refrigerant tubes. The heat exchanger is also reduced in its production cost, accomplishes the recent trend of compactness, and minimizes its air-side pressure loss, in addition to accomplishing an improvement in its heat exchange operational performance due to its enhanced heat transfer efficiency. This heat exchanger is also improved in its productivity.
