In one embodiment, a polymeric sheet, comprising: a foamed layer comprising a polymeric material, wherein the polymeric material has a Tg of greater than or equal to 100&#xb0; C.; and wherein the sheet has a weight reduction of 10% to 60%, as compared to a solid sheet of the same geometry and size formed from the same polymeric material. The sheet, at the thickness of 1.0 mm, has a smoke density of less than or equal to 200 particles after four minutes of burning according to ASTM E662-06. The sheet is thermoformable.

Polymeric sheets, methods for making and using the same, and articles comprising polymeric sheets

Disclosed herein is a polymeric sheet that includes a first polymeric layer; and a second foamed layer; the first polymeric layer being in operative communication with the second foamed layer; the polymeric sheet having a percent light transmission as measured according to ASTM D 1003 of about 3% to about 80% at a thickness of greater than or equal to about 1,000 micrometers. Disclosed herein is a method comprising deforming an organic polymer composition at a temperature below a glass transition temperature of an organic polymer in the organic polymer composition; the deforming being conducted by an application of a shear force, an elongational force, a compressive force, or a combination comprising at least one of the foregoing forces; the forces being applied to the organic polymer composition as it is disposed between a first roll that comprises a rubber surface and a second roll that comprises a textured metal surface; the deforming producing a textured film having a ratio of texturing of about 0.5 to about 3; the textured film having a thickness of about 5 to about 75 micrometers and an average roughness of about 0.3 to about 6 micrometers on opposing surfaces of the film.

An apparatus and method for quantitatively measuring ripple and distortion levels in a transparent sheet (or film) material is provided. The apparatus includes a light source for projecting light beams onto a screen. A frame assembly is positioned intermediate to the light source and is adapted to hold the transparent sheet material at a predetermined angle and distance from the screen. The light beams pass though the transparent sheet material and projects an image onto the screen. The process includes digitally capturing the image and generating parameter signals from the digital image. The parameter signals are used in a model to quantitatively assign a value to the level of ripple and distortion present in the transparent sheet material.
