Various example embodiments for supporting subscriber sampled congestion control are presented herein. Various example embodiments for supporting subscriber sampled congestion control may be configured to support subscriber sampled congestion control by triggering monitoring of a subset of subscriber devices of an access network area for detecting congestion in the access network area and triggering application of a congestion control policy for the access network area based on detection of congestion in the access network area.

Sampled subscriber congestion control

A network termination card is provided which allows new services to be implemented on the DSLAM on which the network termination card is located without restricting the number of slots used for line termination cards. Software controlled multiplexers are provided on some ports of the switch on the network termination card, and a daughter card connector is provided on the network termination card. When a new service is to be implemented, a specialized daughter card implementing the service can be connected to the daughter card connector. The multiplexers can then be configured to allow the necessary number of ports from the switch to communicate with the daughter card connector, while other multiplexers can be configured to retain communication between the switch and normal components of the DLSAM. The invention allows flexibility in which and how many ports of the switch are used to communicate with the daughter card, thereby allowing a new service to be implemented via the DLSAM without limiting communication between the switch and other regular components beyond what is necessary.

A system and method for control management of shared peripheral circuits by a plurality of controllers is provided. Control of the peripherals is mediated through a shared signal controller which uses mask registers to ensure that only one controller may control a peripheral at any one time, and that the type of peripheral is matched to the type of controller.

An apparatus is described having an ATM switch core, wherein the ATM switch core has an input coupled to an ingress AAL2 switch engine and an output coupled to an egress AAL2 switch engine. The ingress AAL2 switch engine has a first look-up table that can store: 1) an identification label for an AAL2 virtual channel through said ATM switch core; and, 2) an AAL2 egress connection identification label for an ingress AAL2 packet to be carried by the AAL2 virtual channel. The egress AAL2 switch engine has a second look-up table that can store an egress CID and egress VPI/VCI for the AAL2 egress connection identification label.
