Various embodiments of a method and apparatus for diagnosing the status of a vehicle using cognitive SMART sensors are disclosed. The SMART sensors have at least some processing power directly associated with the sensor. The SMART sensor that include an artificial intelligence (AI) core are is tightly coupled to the sensor within the SMART sensor. The sensor may be an audio sensor, such as a high quality microphone, that can record sounds that emanate from of the vehicle. Such sounds may be associated with one or more of the components of the vehicle. The AI core analyzes the sounds that emanate from the vehicle to determine the operational status of the vehicle. A communication module allows the result to be communicated to remotely located interested entities.

Method and apparatus for automotive vehicle diagnostics using cognitive smart sensors

Some of the disclosed methods and apparatuses use several types of stochastic binary string (SBS) generators to generate SBS sequences based on the particular values to be multiplied. Systems and methods having a local processor at the extreme edge of an environmental monitoring/control system are disclosed. A sensor is provided in close proximity to the processing module. The processing module is a relatively simple processor capable of detecting the occurrence of one particular event, or a limited number of particular events. The processing is done with a relatively simple neural network. Processing module outputs indicate that a particular event has occurred. The processing module includes a memory into which values can be loaded that are determined by 'pre-training' for use with the processing module. The downloading and use of such pre-trained values allows the processing module to efficiently detect particular events for which the values were pre-trained.

Scheduling and allocating resources in a millimeter wave communication system are performed by components of both the MAC and the RF front end acting in cooperation with one another. MAC components operate essential in accordance with the 802.11 standard. Signals at 2.4/5 GHz intermediate frequency (IF) output from an IF module are upconverted to an RF mmWave spectrum. The RF signals are routed to different subsector antennas and/or polarizations of a subsector antenna in order to direct the RF mmWave signal to a desired destination. Beamforming by the physical structures of antennas, direct the RF signals to a particular subsector. The combination of allocating resources within the MAC, processing within the MBI module before being upconverting to RF, together with signal switching of the RF signals, determines the destination to which signals are to be transmitted and the source from which signals are to be received.

Systems and methods of correcting for a transmitter IQ imbalance are disclosed. Various embodiments collect statistics related to a received packet on a transceiver. These statistics include one or more transmitter imbalance parameters. In some embodiments, an estimated inversion matrix is calculated based on the imbalance parameter and a correction for the IQ imbalance is made by applying the inversion matrix to a sub-carrier and the sub carrier's image.

System and method for blind compensation and correction of transmitter IQ imbalance at the receiver

Method and apparatus are provided for estimating noise variance using a long-term data aided algorithm and an interference variance using a short-term data aided algorithm. Using these estimations, an interference hypothesis may be determined. Some embodiments compute the variance for a decision directed noise sample, convert the variance for the decision directed noise to a true noise variance per packet, and convert the variance for the decision directed noise to a true noise variance per symbol. The interference hypothesis may be based on the noise variance estimations per symbol and the noise variance estimation per packet. Some embodiments determine the presence of noise based on a comparison of the noise variance per packet, the noise variance per symbol, and each hypothesis and compute the long-term noise variance. Using the long-term noise variance in place of the variance for a decision directed noise sample for a subsequent determination of interference.

Systems and methods for estimating IQ imbalance in a communication system are provided. In various embodiments, a device is configured to perform a self-characterization. The self-characterization is performed over an RF loopback circuit. In some embodiments, a probe is transmitted over the RF loopback circuit. The probe uses a frequency offset such that an image related to one IQ imbalance is separated from an image related to another IQ imbalance. An imbalance estimate is calculated based on processing of the probe.

A system and method providing a frame structure to received channel data sent over an air interface of a wireless communication system. The system and method may allow compensation for transmitting and receiving frequency variations, synchronization at the receiver, and provides a virtual signaling channel which may be used for system alarms and status. In one embodiment, the system uses bit stuffing, a frame preamble and a signaling preamble to transmit data at a high data rate in the ISM band.

Wireless T/E transceiver frame and signaling controller

A system and method of frame synchronization and detection for use in a digital receiver within a communication system. The digital radio communication system includes a receiver for receiving a signal stream that includes data frames. Each frame includes an arbitrary data sequence and a unique word. A predetermined number of contiguous bits from the unique word are appended to the beginning of each data frame to identify the start of the data frame. The communication system comprises a sampling circuit for sampling symbol levels, a filter to implement the cross correlation of the received signal with the stored unique word, a threshold detector circuit to detect when frame synchronization is achieved as well as additional circuitry to refine the estimate from the threshold detection circuit. The design utilizes coherent demodulation. However, the design is equally applicable to non-coherent demodulation. In one embodiment, the sampling rate is assumed to be two samples per symbol. However, the functionality of the proposed design is not limited to two samples per symbol.

Frame synchronization and detection technique for a digital receiver

A receiver for receiving a signal stream in a digital radio communication system. The signal stream includes data frames where each frame including a data signal sequence and a synchronizing signal sequence. The communication system synchronizes the receiver by employing the signal stream. The receiver includes a sampling circuit for sampling symbol levels in the synchronizing signal sequence and a synchronization subsystem. The synchronization subsystem utilizes a frame synchronization circuit, a dynamic interpolator and a decision-directed phase tracking mechanism for removing residual frequency and phase offsets. The synchronization subsystem also includes a threshold detection mechanism for comparing values derived from the sampled frame synchronization output with a predefined value which determines whether synchronization has occurred or not. The dynamic interpolator includes a circuit for generating the interpolation coefficients for timing and initial phase estimation, a maximum likelihood timing and phase estimator, and a data interpolation and decimation unit. The estimated timing offset and phase offset in the dynamic interpolator may change for each frame in the signal stream.
