A rechargeable battery includes an electrode assembly including a first electrode plate, a second electrode plate, and a separator between the first and second electrode plates, an electrolyte having viscosity of about 1 Pa&#xb7;s to about 15 Pa&#xb7;s at a temperature from about 20&#xb0; C. to about 25&#xb0; C., a can having an opening on one surface through which the electrode assembly is inserted, the electrode assembly and the electrolyte being accommodated inside the can, and a cap plate that seals the opening of the can. A ratio of the height of the can to a cross-sectional area of the can is from about 12.5% to about 25%.

Rechargeable battery

A rechargeable battery is disclosed. In one aspect, the battery includes an electrode assembly that comprises a first electrode plate, a second electrode plate, and a separator interposed between the first and second electrode plates. The battery also includes a can having an opening and accommodating the electrode assembly therein, wherein the can comprises a plurality of corner units, wherein at least one of the corner units is rounded, and wherein the outer radius of curvature of the at least one corner unit is greater than the inner radius of curvature thereof. The battery further includes a cap plate substantially sealing the opening of the can.

A rechargeable battery includes an electrode assembly including a first electrode plate, a second electrode plate, and a separator between the first electrode plate and the second electrode plate, a can in which the electrode assembly is accommodated, the can including an opening at one side, the opening being hermetically sealed by a cap plate, and a top plate on the cap plate. The top plate includes a first welding unit and a second welding unit that are coupled to the cap plate, and a third welding unit that is between the first welding unit and the second welding unit. The first welding unit is connected to the cap plate and includes first through third welding points. The first through third welding points collectively forming a triangular shape.

A rechargeable battery includes an electrode assembly including a first electrode plate, a second electrode plate, and a separator between the first electrode plate and the second electrode plate, a can having an opening at one side thereof through which the electrode assembly is inserted, the electrode assembly being accommodated in the inside of the can, and a cap plate that seals the opening of the can. The can includes a first vent on a first side surface of the can, and a second vent on a second side surface of the can.

An electrode assemblage includes a first electrode assembly with first electrodes. Each first electrode has a porous first electrode current collector with a plurality of pores, and first electrode active material layers attached to the porous first electrode current collector. The electrode assemblage further includes a second electrode having a second electrode current collector and second electrode active material layers attached to the second electrode current collector, and also includes a separator disposed between the first electrode assembly and the second electrode.

An electrolyte for a lithium ion battery includes a non-aqueous organic solvent and a lithium salt. The non-aqueous organic solvent includes a flame-retardant solvent and a carbonate-based solvent. A rechargeable lithium battery is provided that includes a negative electrode including a negative active material, a positive electrode including a positive active material, and an electrolyte. The electrolyte includes a lithium salt and a non-aqueous organic solvent including from about 1 to about 20 volume % of a cyclic carbonate and from about 80 to about 99 volume % of a linear carbonate. The positive electrode has an active mass density of about 3.7 g/cc or greater. The rechargeable lithium battery shows improved cycle-life and storage characteristics at high temperatures, and good high rate characteristics.
