A charging device for an electric vehicle includes a wireless power receiving device which receives high-frequency AC power in a non-contact state, a wired power receiving device connected to an external power source for low-frequency AC power, a rectifier which rectifies AC power, an electric power converter which is positioned at a rear part of the rectifier, and an power receiving device switching switch which switches electric power in such a way that any of electric power of both electric power receiving devices is outputted to the rectifier. A high-frequency filter, which removes a high-frequency component, is provided between the rectifier and the electric power converter.

Charging device for electric vehicle

A bidirectional non-contact power supply device with its electric power transmission efficiency being high is obtained by a simple configuration. In the bidirectional non-contact power supply device, a coil is included for performing electric power transmission to and reception from another coil through a magnetic field coupling therebetween, and the coil and a capacitor being connected in series are connected on an input-output end of an inverter circuit, wherein a bidirectional buck-boost converter is connected between the inverter circuit and a DC power source ().

In order to obtain a contactless power supply device which, even when a spatial gap between a primary winding and a secondary winding varies, is capable of not only accurately detecting whether or not the primary winding and the secondary winding come into the position opposite to each other, but also detecting how large the spatial gap between the primary winding and the secondary winding is created, the contactless power supply device is provided with a drive voltage detection unit which detects the drive voltage of an inverter circuit, a drive current detection unit which detects the drive current of the inverter circuit, and a primary component extraction unit which, from the drive voltage and the drive current, extracts a primary drive voltage and a primary drive current including the first order frequency-components having the same frequency as a drive frequency of the inverter circuit.

Contactless power supply device

An optical fiber sensor that can detect a liquid level or detect a property of liquid with high reliability even under a frequently vibrational environment. The optical fiber sensor includes an optical fiber that includes a core having an area where a grating is formed and a clad, the optical fiber being disposed so that at least a part of the area with the grating is immersed in liquid, a light source for making light incident to the optical fiber so that a cladding mode light having a wavelength band is generated by the grating, and a light receiving unit for detecting the intensity of light which is incident from the light source to the optical fiber and transmitted through the grating.

Optical fiber sensor

Provided is an electric double layer capacitor including a large capacity single cell having a large electrostatic capacity and a small capacity single cell are connected to the same exterior case in parallel, and a thickness of a separator of the large capacity single cell is made thicker than a thickness of a separator of the small capacity single cell. With this structure, a supply amount of an electrolyte solution to the large capacity single cell is markedly increased compared with the small capacity single cell, thereby being capable of preventing degradation of the large capacity single cells and the small capacity single cells and providing the electric double layer capacitor having an excellent cycle life and having a large power storage amount while keeping characteristics capable of instantaneously allowing large current to flow.

Electric double layer capacitor

A tunable dispersion compensator in which a heater portion can be easily constructed to reduce cost. A tunable dispersion compensator includes: an optical fiber having a grating portion; a heating unit for heating the grating portion to apply a temperature distribution to the grating portion; and a control unit for controlling the temperature distribution applied by the heating unit to control the group delay time characteristic of the grating portion. The heating unit includes: a heater including a single conductor having electrical resistors and which extends in a longitudinal direction of the grating portion over at least the entire length of the grating portion; and wirings electrically connected with the heater in respective positions along the longitudinal direction. The control unit supplies a voltage to each of the wirings.

Tunable dispersion compensator and method of manufacturing the same

A polarization dispersion compensation apparatus includes a polarization controller, a polarization beam splitter, an optical delay circuit, and a polarization beam combiner. The polarization controller controls polarization of an optical signal so that the polarization axis of the input optical signal substantially coincides with the optical axis of an optical transmission line, and the polarization beam splitter section splits the optical signal into two polarized components perpendicular to each other. The optical delay circuit section causes a difference in delay between the two polarized components, and the polarization beam combiner section combines the two polarized components output from the optical delay circuit section. Each of the polarization beam splitter section and the polarization beam combiner section includes a symmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometer having optical transmission lines in two arms, each arm including a temperature control and a birefringence portion for compensating polarization dispersion between the two polarized components.

Polarization dispersion compensating apparatus

A variable dispersion compensator includes an optical waveguide, a temperature controller. The optical waveguide has a chirped grating having a Bragg wavelength changing along the longitudinal direction of the grating. A temperature distribution T (x) is applied to a central portion of the grating, defined as a region where a distance x from an end of the grating is a range of 20 % to 80 % of total length of the grating. Temperature distribution T (x) and T (x) are applied to end portions of the grating, defined as two regions extending from respective ends of the grating to the central region, respectively. At least one of T (x) and T (x) has a distance dependence different from that of the T (x).

Variable dispersion compensator

In a polarization mode dispersion compensating apparatus for controlling polarization mode dispersion of an optical signal, a first optical monitor detects and outputs, based on an optical signal outputted from a first optical transmission line having a grating, a first detection signal indicating magnitude of waveform distortion of the first optical transmission line, and a second optical monitor detects and outputs, based on an optical signal output from a second optical transmission line having a grating, a second detection signal indicating magnitude of waveform distortion of the second optical transmission line. A calculator circuit calculates from the first and second detection signals an output signal. A controller controls a polarization controller based on the output signal from the calculator circuit.

A method of manufacturing a grating in an optical waveguide that includes a core and a cladding covering the core. The method includes scanning a laser beam along an optical axis of the optical waveguide to modulate the refractive index of the core. The core is made of a material having a refractive index that is changeable upon irradiation by radiation. In addition, in scanning the core, the irradiation range of the laser beam is controlled and the core is scanned several times. Therefore, a predetermined distribution of irradiation is obtained in a direction of the optical axis of the grating.

Method of manufacturing grating

A temperature control device for controlling temperature variable devices disposed near a grating of a variable dispersion equalizer including an optical waveguide having the grating. The temperature variable devices control temperatures independently of each other. The temperature control device includes a controller for controlling the temperature variable units, and a storage device which stores temperature control patterns including combinations of control signals for the respective temperature variable units. The controller controls the temperature variable devices with a control signal of at least one of the temperature control patterns selected from the storage device.

Temperature control system for a grating

A waveguide grating device controlling Bragg wavelength after manufacture of the device includes an optical waveguide on a substrate. A variable stress is applied to a waveguide grating in part of the waveguide to bend at least the portion of the substrate including the waveguide grating, changing the Bragg wavelength.

A backlight provides uniform emanating light for a liquid crystal display. In the backlight, light emitted from a light source is incident on a receiving end surface of a light guide plate and emanates through a top surface toward a liquid crystal panel. A bottom surface includes a reflecting hollow wedge extending along the receiving end surface and varying in depth, as measured from the bottom surface, in correspondence with distance from the end surface. A dividing flat portion orthogonal to the reflecting hollow wedge divides the reflecting hollowed portion, and an output surface includes a prism having parallel ridges extending in a direction orthogonal to the receiving end surface.

Backlight for liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal panel module includes a liquid crystal panel unit on a backlight unit. The backlight unit preferably has a holding member for holding the liquid crystal panel unit in a specific position on the backlight unit with no gap therebetween. Preferably, the backlight unit comprises a light guide; a lamp for emitting illumination from one side of the light guide; and a reflector for collecting light from the lamp on the light guide. The reflector has a polygonal cross section, a thickness greater than the thickness of the light guide, and is open to only the thickness of the light guide on the light guide side of the reflector.

Liquid crystal panel device having a light guide plate with L shaped ribs

A display panel with a reduced capacitive coupling. The panel includes a transmission type liquid crystal panel. A lamp is provided adjacent at least one side of a light guide plate to guide the light to the crystal panel. A high frequency current supply is used to power the light. A reflective plate encircles the lamp so as to introduce the light to the light guide plate. A housing is made of a thin metal plate. Each portion of the housing is connected with a common electrical potential. Part of the housing extends away from the reflective plate around the lamp or contains an opening in the same location. By this arrangement, the capacitance between the reflective plate and the housing is made smaller thus reducing the leakage current.
