A medical device and a method of operating the same are provided. In a method of operating a medical device for ultrasonic treatment, the medical device including an ultrasonic instrument having a vibration transmission member that vibrates ultrasonically, a power source configured to supply electric energy to the ultrasonic instrument, and a processor including a control unit operably connected to the power source, the method includes: controlling supply of the electric energy to the ultrasonic instrument, obtaining a temperature value related to a temperature of the vibration transmission member, the vibration transmission member being separate from a transducer, and controlling the power source to reduce or stop the supply of electric energy of the power source based on the rate of change of the temperature value.

Medical device and method for controlling the same including discriminating end-of-cut conditions based on temperature

A control device includes: a power source configured to supply a high frequency power to a treatment instrument configured to treat a living tissue; a detecting circuit configured to sequentially detect a phase difference between a voltage and a current of the high frequency power supplied to the treatment instrument; and a processor configured to control operation of the power source, the processor being configured to sequentially calculate a variation of the phase difference detected by the detecting circuit, compare the calculated variation of the phase difference with a first threshold set for a variation of a phase difference, and perform reduction processing to reduce output of the high frequency power to be supplied to the treatment instrument when it is determined that the calculated variation of the phase difference is equal to or smaller than the first threshold.

Control device, treatment system, and control method

A treatment system includes a treatment tool having a heater and bipolar electrodes to grip a treatment target. An energy source apparatus is used to electrically communicate with the treatment tool. The energy output source is configured to output high-frequency electric power to the bipolar electrodes through a first circuit. A high-frequency current flows through the treatment target between the bipolar electrodes. The energy output source is configured to output heater electric power to the heater for generating heat through a second circuit. At least one processor is used to control the energy output source.

Energy source apparatus

A treatment system comprises a treatment tool and an energy source apparatus is used to electrically communicate with the treatment tool. The energy output source is configured to output high-frequency electric power to the bipolar electrodes so as to cause a high-frequency current to flow through a treatment target between the bipolar electrodes. A processor is used to control the energy output source. The processor performs an output control process on the heater electric power so that the heater reaches a target temperature and maintains at the target temperature. The processor detects a parameter related to the heater from the heater in the output control process based on the target temperature. The processor sets a threshold value used to determine to stop or to lower the output to the bipolar electrodes while the treatment target is being modified by the high-frequency current applied thereto based on the detected parameter.

A treatment system includes a treatment tool and an energy source apparatus used to supply electrical energy to the treatment tool. The treatment tool includes a heater and bipolar electrodes to grip a treatment target. The energy source apparatus includes a processor to control the output to the bipolar electrodes and the heater, respectively. The processor directs the output to the bipolar electrodes and detects an initial value of the impedance of the treatment target. The processor determines whether or not the impedance has reached a minimum value and then retrieves a parameter that is detected before the minimum value of the impedance is detected. The processor performs a first process and/or a second process based on the acquired parameter after the minimum value is detected. The first process determines whether or not the output to the heater is required. The second process sets a target value.

A treatment system includes a treatment tool and an energy source apparatus. The treatment tool includes a heater and bipolar electrodes to grip a treatment target. The energy source apparatus supplies electrical energy to the treatment tool. A processor controls the output to the bipolar electrodes and the heater. The processor causes a high-frequency electric power to be output to the bipolar electrodes and detects a parameter that varies depending on tissue volume of the treatment target. The processor sets a target value related to an output control process for controlling the output to the heater. The processor controls the output to the heater so as to modify the treatment target with the heat of the heater. The processor increases the output and temperature to the heater until at least a predetermined point of time after starting the output control process for controlling the output to the heater.

A control device controls a surgical instrument including a heater. The control device includes a first power supply, a second power supply, a resistance value calculation section, and an output control circuit. The first power supply outputs a first current having a first frequency and supplied to the heater. The second power supply outputs a second current combined with the first current, supplied to the heater and having a second frequency different from the first frequency. The resistance value calculation section separates a signal component related to the second current from the first and second currents having passed through the heater, and calculates a heater resistance value based on the signal component. The output control circuit controls a temperature of the heater based on the heater resistance value.

A heating treatment apparatus to treat a living tissue by heating the living tissue includes a first holding member and a second holding member, a first heat generating element provided on the first holding member, a second heat generating element provided on the second holding member, a power supply unit supplying electric power to cause the first heat generating element and the second heat generating element to generate heat, and a control unit controlling operations of the power supply unit. The control unit switches a mode between a first mode and a second mode during treatment of the living tissue. Temperatures of the first heat generating element and the second heat generating element are controlled to the same temperature in the first mode and to different temperatures in the second mode.

A high-frequency generator for an electric surgical instrument that treats a living tissue includes a power supply that generates a power, and a resonant circuit that excites a high-frequency signal. The resonant circuit includes a parallel resonant circuit which is connected to the power supply, and a series resonant circuit which is coupled to the parallel resonant circuit and is connected to the electric surgical instrument.
