A liquid crystal display device has a gradation display function of at least an n-number of gray levels and has a viewing angle characteristic of Mi/Mj&#x2266;1.3 in a case where a display luminance range in a normal direction to a display surface in a gradation range of predetermined gray levels i to j is Li to Lj and a display luminance range in an oblique viewing-angle direction of 30&#xb0; or more is Mi to Mj (where n, i and j are real numbers, and n&#x2267;i&#x3e;j&#x2267;0). The liquid crystal display device has a display mode in which a display image is displayed with a display luminance range of the display image being limited to Li to Lj.

A liquid crystal display device comprises a poly-silicon TFT substrate having a condenser type digital analog converter, an another substrate disposed so as to face the poly-silicon TFT substrate, and liquid crystal positioned between the poly-silicon TFT substrate and the another substrate. In this liquid crystal device, a light blocking film is formed on a surface of the another substrate and contacts with the liquid crystal. Liquid crystal display device and method of manufacturing the same

A manufacturing method of a substrate for display panel comprises a step of forming an organic insulating film on a light transmissive substrate and a step of patterning the organic insulating film to form a first opening and a second opening smaller than the first opening formed as through holes therein. In particular, this patterning step includes a lithography process of selectively exposing the organic insulating film to light with the use of a photomask and removing the light-exposed portions, the photomask being so set that the average light transmittance is lower at a light transmissive area for the first opening than at a light transmissive area for the second opening.

Method for manufacturing a substrate for a display panel

In a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display apparatus having a liquid crystal layer between a first substrate and a second substrate and having an uneven layer with an uneven shape on a liquid crystal layer side of the first substrate, the uneven layer is formed by a film-forming step of forming a photosensitive resin layer on the first substrate, a first exposure step of exposing the photosensitive resin layer through a mask having a predetermined pattern, a developing step of developing the photosensitive resin layer exposed in the first exposure step, a second exposure step of exposing an entirety of the developed photosensitive resin layer, and a heating step of heating the photosensitive resin exposed in the second exposure step.
