An inductor includes a coil electrode section in which a first spiral electrode and a second spiral electrode are wound in substantially the same direction, lie in substantially the same plane, and are connected to each other by a connection electrode. The coil electrode section is sandwiched by the first magnetic layer and the second magnetic layer from both directions substantially perpendicular to the plane. A first protrusion electrode and a second protrusion electrode at ends of the first spiral electrode and the second spiral electrode that are opposite to the connection electrode extend in a direction substantially perpendicular to the plane, have a length at which each of the protrusion electrodes protrudes from the first magnetic layer, and define opposite end electrodes of the inductor. Arranging this low-profile inductor on a mounting circuit board achieves a low-profile DC-DC converter including a two-layer structure.

Inductor and DC-DC converter

An FET amplifier includes an FET for amplifying a high-frequency signal to be input to the gate on the basis of a gate bias voltage from a gate bias control circuit. In the FET amplifier, a high-frequency signal input circuit and the output portion of an inverting amplifier are made conductive to the gate of the FET. A voltage stabilizing circuit generating a positive DC constant-voltage signal is made conductive to the non-inverting input portion of the inverting amplifier, and a gate bias control signal input circuit is made conductive to the inverting input portion through an inverter circuit. When the output voltage from the inverter circuit is 0 V, the inverting amplifier outputs a positive gate bias voltage (in the High state) and, when the output voltage from the inverter circuit is a fixed positive voltage, the inverting amplifier outputs a negative gate bias voltage (in the Low state) lower than the pinch-off voltage of the FET. The FET is ON/OFF controlled by the gate bias voltage and pulse modulates the input high-frequency signal to output the signal.

A line coupling structure for coupling a dielectric waveguide to a suspended line has the dielectric waveguide including dielectric strips and two conductor plates that are approximately parallel to each other, the dielectric strips and a circuit board being sandwiched between the conductor plates. The line coupling structure also has the suspended line including the conductor plates and a conductor pattern on the circuit board. The conductor pattern is arranged in a direction that is substantially perpendicular to the dielectric strips. A protruding conductor pattern that extends in the extending direction of the dielectric strips is provided at a crossing position of the conductor pattern and the dielectric strips.

In a transmission line assembly, a dielectric plate has a continuous protruding portion on at least one of the surfaces thereof so as to form a convex section, electrodes are formed on both of the surfaces of the dielectric plate including the outer surface of the protruding portion, and a plurality of through holes, each electrically interconnecting the electrodes formed on both of the surfaces of the dielectric plate, is arrayed on each side along the protruding portion. Accordingly, the space surrounded by the electrodes and the arrayed through holes operates as a transmission line in a mode equivalent to TE10 mode.

A planar dielectric integrated circuit is provided such that energy conversion loss between a planar dielectric line and electronic components is small and that impedance matching between them can be easily obtained. A planar dielectric line is provided by causing two slots to oppose each other with a dielectric plate interposed in between, a slot line and line-conversion conductor patterns are provided in the end portions of the planar dielectric line, and an FET is disposed in such a manner as to be extended over the slot line.

A mixer used in a millimeter-wave band and a microwave band capable of achieving loss reduction, a radar module, and a communication apparatus incorporating the mixer and having high efficiency. The mixer includes two electrodes formed on one main surface of a dielectric substrate and another electrode formed on another main surface thereof such that non-electrode portions on both main surfaces are opposed to each other via the dielectric substrate. Additionally, a diode is connected bridging a slit between the two electrodes on one main surface to constitute a circuit board. The circuit board and a dielectric strip are arranged between upper and lower conductive plates.

Mixer, radar module, and communication apparatus incorporating the same

In a transmission line, protrusions extend in line one after another in a direction perpendicular to the cross section in a part of a dielectric substrate, with a discontinuous portion therebetween. A lower-surface electrode is formed on a main surface of the dielectric substrate provided with the protrusions and on the outer surfaces of the protrusions. An upper-surface electrode is formed on substantially the whole area of the surface opposite to the lower-surface electrode. Further, a plurality of through-holes for connecting the lower-surface electrode and the upper-surface electrode, which are formed on both surfaces of the dielectric substrate, are aligned on both sides of the protrusions along the direction in which the protrusions extend. Also, coplanar lines and a circuit element are mounted on the upper-surface electrode. The coplanar lines are coupled at a predetermined position to a transmission path formed by the protrusions.

Transmission line, integrated circuit, and transmitter receiver

In a radar, a frequency-modulated transmission signal whose frequency varies in time is generated. The gain-frequency characteristics of an IF signal which represents a beat signal between the transmission signal and a reception signal has its peak at or below one half of the sampling frequency of an AD converter. The gain-frequency characteristics of an IF amplifier circuit is determined so that the gain increases as the frequency increases at or below the frequency corresponding to the peak, the ratio of change in the gain relative to change in the frequency becomes smaller at short distances for which a saturation of a mixer is caused, and the gain is reduced at DC and in the vicinity of DC.

Radar for detecting the distance to a target

A voltage controlled oscillator, a voltage controlled oscillator device, and a radar device provided therewith which can detect when the oscillation frequency becomes uncontrollable. According to one embodiment, a Gunn or other oscillation device is connected to a main line and a varactor diode which is a variable reactance element is connected between the main line and a sub line to constitute a voltage controlled oscillator. A control voltage is applied to the varactor diode via a switching circuit, and the presence or absence of oscillation or a failure of the varactor diode or oscillation device is detected by a detection signal, for example, from the varactor diode as monitored by a voltage monitor, and/or from the oscillation device, as monitored by a current sensing device.

An oscillation circuit is constructed by providing a line and a Gunn diode on a dielectric substrate, and an oscillation signal as the fundamental frequency signal of an oscillator is injected into the Gunn diode through a DC bias line. By disposing a dielectric stripline between upper and lower conductor plates, at NRD guide as an output transmission line is constructed, and the line and the NRD guide are coupled. The cutoff frequency of the NRD guide is determined so that the fundamental wave component of oscillation signal of the oscillation circuit is cut off and a harmonic is propagated.

A high-frequency module which includes a dielectric resonator defined by a dielectric sheet; a pair of electrodes formed on each of the main surfaces of the dielectric sheet and having aligned openings which form a dielectric resonator; a substrate stacked on the sheet; and lines disposed on the substrate for being coupled to the dielectric resonator. At least one of the lines is curved and is disposed just inside the opening and runs substantially along the edges of the openings.
