An actively controlled suspension system comprises a hydraulic cylinder disposed between a vehicle body and a suspension member rotatably supporting a vehicular wheel, the hydraulic cylinder defining therein a working chamber, a pressure source including a pump associated with an automotive internal combustion engine to be driven by the output of the engine, a pressure control valve having a first port connected to the working chamber, a second port connected to the pressure source via a supply line and a third port connected to the pressure source via a drain line, the pressure control valve being variable of valve position for selectively establishing and blocking fluid communication between the first port and the second port and between the first port and the third port for adjusting fluid pressure in the working chamber for controlling suspension characteristics, a vertical acceleration sensor for monitoring vertical acceleration exerted on the vehicular body to produce a vertical acceleration indicative signal, first circuit for arithmetically deriving a vertical stroke speed of the vehicular body on the basis of the vertical acceleration indicative signal, second circuit for detecting initiation of arithmetic operation of the first circuit for setting data for use in derivation of the vertical speed in a value for cancelling offset contained in the vertical acceleration indicative signal.

A method of and an apparatus for alleviating shocks occurring during a gear shift of an automatic transmission are disclosed. In order to alleviate shift shocks, the output torque of the engine is reduced upon the lapse of a delay time from the occurrence of a shift command and before the interruption of lock-up action of the torque converter. This delay time is updated using a factor determined by substracting a predetermined constant from a length of time from the occurrence of the shift command to an instant when an actual engine revolution speed agrees with a value of an estimated engine revolution speed variation during the interruption of lock-up action. The engine revolution variation is estimated based on an actual engine revolution speed variation trend taking place immediately after the occurrence of the shift command but before the interruption of lock-up action. The delay time updated in this manner is used during a gear shifting operation initiated by a subsequent shift command.

A fuel injection detecting system is used with a diesel engine having a fuel injection nozzle, the nozzle including a movable member for effecting fuel injection into the engine when the valve member is displaced from its normal position and interrupting fuel injection when the valve member is returned to its normal position. The detecting system includes a sensor for sensing displacement of the valve member and generating a signal indicative thereof. A comparator is provided to compare the signal from the sensor with a reference signal and to generate a signal indicative of fuel injection via the nozzle. The detecting system also includes a device for preventing the fuel injection signal from including components unrelated to fuel injection via the nozzle. This device may disable the sensor for a predetermined period immediately after the first major displacement of the valve member. Alternatively, the device may adjust the reference voltage so as to hold the voltage thereof at a level exceeding that of all features of the sensor signal except the signal largest peak during each fuel injection.

In an engine speed sensing device, angle pulses produced when the crankshaft rotates through a predetermined angle are counted by a counter for a predetermined interval. The count of angle pulses is read into a central processing unit of a digital computer at the end of each set time interval in response to a control signal which both updates the angle pulse count and signals the processing unit to read the count.

A fuel injection control device includes a microcomputer which determines a fuel injection amount based on the engine operation parameters. The microcomputer also actuates the fuel injection valve to open earlier in relation to the normal timing of fuel injection in response to turning on the starter switch. The fuel injection amount corresponds to the duration of opening of the fuel injection valve, and the opening duration of the fuel injection valve is defined by a driving signal and a stopping signal. The driving signal is generated at given angles of crank revolution. The driving signal is generated in response to a preset number of crank angle pulses, which is varied between the first fuel injecting operation and subsequent fuel injecting operations. The fuel injection timing of the first injecting operation is shorter than that of the remainder for improving start-up characteristics of the engine responsive to turning on the starter switch.

Fuel injection control device for use with an internal combustion engine

An electronic engine controller is disclosed for controlling selected operations of an internal combustion engine based upon engine operating parameters. The engine controller comprises a load sensor for generating an analog signal indicative of the value of engine load, and an A/D converter for converting the engine load indicative analog signal into digital form. The A to D conversion is synchronized with engine rotation by a data sampling circuit which includes a first circuit for determining, based upon engine speed, a desired position of an engine crankshaft with respect to an engine crankshaft reference position, and a second circuit responsive to the engine crankshaft rotating to the determined engine crankshaft position for providing a command signal to the A/D converter which thereby initiates the A to D conversion process.

A fuel supply control system for an internal combustion engine having a fuel supply cut-off function is equipped with means for increasing in amount, the fuel supply of fuel in response to resumption of the supply of fuel subsequent to the fuel cut-off operation, thereby compensating for a fuel delivery delay characteristic which otherwise would occur upon the resumption of the supply of fuel. The increase in fuel is determined in response to at least one of variables which affect the rate of evaporation of the fuel adhered to the inner wall of the intake manifold during the fuel cut-off operation.
