A fluorinated copolymer composition comprises ethylene/tetrafluoroethylene-containing copolymer and copper oxide. The ethylene/tetrafluoroethylene-containing copolymer comprises repeating units (A) based on ethylene, repeating units (B) based on tetrafluoroethylene and repeating units (C) based on another monomer, in a molar ratio of the repeating units (A) to the repeating units (B) of from 38/62 to 44/56, and in an amount of the repeating units (C) of from 0.1 to 2.6 mol % in all the repeating units of the ethylene/tetrafluoroethylene-containing copolymer. The content of the copper oxide is from 0.2 to 10 ppm based on the total weight of ethylene/tetrafluoroethylene-containing copolymer. The copper oxide has a BET surface area of from 5 to 30 m/g. The volume flow rate of the fluorinated copolymer composition at 297&#xb0; C. is from 15 to 150 g/10 min.

An electric double layer capacitor including a positive electrode assembly and a negative electrode assembly, each electrode assembly having a porous layer including a carbonaceous powder and a fluorine-containing polymer formed on at least one side of an aluminum foil current collector, the positive electrode and the negative electrode being disposed so that the porous layer of the positive electrode assembly and the porous layer of the negative electrode assembly face each other with a separator interposed therebetween to form an element, the element being impregnated with a non-aqueous electrolyte and accommodated in a sealed container, wherein the thickness of the porous layer is from 80 to 200 &mgr;m, the thickness of the aluminum foil current collector is from 20 to 80 &mgr;m, the thickness of the separator is from 30 to 170 &mgr;m, and the density of the porous layer is from 0.50 to 0.80 g/cm , wherein the capacitor has such a structure that a plurality of the positive electrode assemblies and the negative electrode assemblies are alternately laminated with a separator interposed therebetween, or strip positive electrode assemblies and negative electrode assemblies are wound with a separator interposed therebetween.

A process for producing an electrode for an electric double layer capacitor, which comprises extruding a mixture comprising a carbonaceous material, a polytetrafluoroethylene and a processing aid by screw extrusion, and rolling the obtained extruded product by rolling rolls to form it into a sheet shape.
