A diazo heat-sensitive recording material having excellent raw stock storability and image storage characteristics, which comprises a support having thereon a recording layer comprising a diazo compound, a coupling component and an organic base. The invention is directed to a process for producing microcapsules containing a diazonium salt compound by the steps of (i) adding a dialkyl sulfate compound represented by the formula: RO--SO.sub.2 --OR, where R is an alkyl or cycloalkyl group having up to 24 carbon atoms, to an organic solvent solution containing a diazonium salt compound and a polyfunctional isocyanate compound, (ii) emulsifying the resulting organic solvent solution into an aqueous solution of ,a water-soluble polymer, and then (iii) polymerizing the polyfunctional isocyanate compound to form microcapsule walls. A novel light-sensitive heat-sensitive composition is disclosed, comprising a photohardenable composition, a dye which discolors upon reacting with a base, and a base precursor. A novel light-sensitive heat-sensitive recording material is also disclosed, comprising a support having provided thereon the above described light-sensitive heat-sensitive composition. In a preferred embodiment, the dye is a spectral sensitizing dye for the photohardenable composition. Furthermore, a novel image formation process is disclosed, comprising the steps of: (a) imagewise exposing the light-sensitive heat-sensitive recording material to light to cure the exposed portions of the recording material; and (b) uniformly heating the imagewise exposed recording material to discolor the dye in the unexposed portions thereof. A second image formation process is disclosed, comprising the steps of: (a) imagewise heating the light-sensitive heat-sensitive recording material to discolor the dye in the heated portions of the recording material; and (b) uniformly exposing the imagewise heated recording material to light to cure the unheated portions thereof.

Light-sensitive heat-sensitive composition and recording material

A light- and heat-sensitive recording material is disclosed which includes a support having thereon a recording layer containing a diazo compound, a coupling component, and an organic base compound, wherein the diazo compound is a 1-substituted amino-3-alkoxybenzene-4-diazonium salt and the coupling component is a compound prepared from any of cyclohexane-1,3-dione, 3-cyclohexenone, or 2-cyclohexenone. The light- and heat-sensitive recording material according to the present invention can develop an excellent magenta color hue and has excellent storage properties before recording use (shelf life).
