The present invention provides an image display system that secures a bright image and reduces cross-talk of a three-dimensional image display of a liquid-crystal type and provides a large viewing angle. The image display system includes a filter having a first area for transmitting light of a specific polarization and a second area for transmitting a light of polarization axis orthogonal to the light of the specific polarization provided repeatedly in the vertical direction, and a light source () including a light-emitting source (), a polarizer () for emitting the light in the forms of the light having the specific polarization and the light having the polarization axis orthogonal to the specific polarization, and an optical element () for refracting the lights having the different polarizations into the directions toward the left and right eyes respectively and irradiating the same onto a liquid crystal panel ().

Image display system and light source unit

The invention is intended to change the viewing angle in accordance with a viewer's intention. Disposed between a light source () and a liquid crystal display panel (), a Fresnel lens () converts light coming from the light source () to approximately parallel light and allows plural images to be displayed to different positions. The light source () is configured in such a manner that lighting positions and lighting regions can be changed. Lighting control means for changing the lighting positions or lighted regions of the light sources () is provided.

Image display apparatus

The present invention is intended to improve assembleability of a portion of a liquid crystal display panel. An image display in which, even when an observer moves vertically in a position viewing an image, a bright image is obtained.
