The present invention provides an aqueous patch which can stably contain only one of an S-enantiomer and an R-enantiomer of a drug capable of being present in such enantiomers at a relatively high concentration over a long period of time, has the excellent adhesive property and the excellent shape retaining property, and achieves high skin permeability of the drug. Specifically, the present invention provides an aqueous patch containing only one of enantiomers of a drug as an active ingredient in a pasty preparation.

The present invention relates to a backing having a three-layer structure prepared by sticking together an inner fiber layer for holding a pasty preparation, a film layer having through-holes, and an air-permeable outer fiber layer which prevents leaking out of the pasty preparation or a liquid component exuded from the pasty preparation, and also relates to an aqueous patch using the backing which can be applied for a long time.

The present invention relates to a backing for a water-based patch consisting of the following constituents, wherein the backing is excellent in pasty preparation retention and moisture retention, improves the persistence of drug efficacy by inhibiting the sublimation of the drug, gives neither restrained feeling nor rough feeling due to a thin thickness and an excellent elasticity, controls the moisture permeability, gives almost no sticky feeling and thereby gives an excellent feeling in application. Methods for administering a dermatological agent to a subject are provided. In the subject methods an effective amount of a topical formulation of the dermatological agent is topically applied to a host. The topically applied formulation of dermatological agent is then occluded with a hydrogel patch, where a feature of the hydrogel patch is that it lacks a pharmaceutically active agent. Also provided are methods of treating a subject for a disease condition by administering a dermatological agent to the subject. Also provided are kits for use in practicing the subject methods. The subject methods and compositions find use in a variety of different applications.

Methods of administering a dermatological agent to a subject

Provided herein is a female hormone-containing patch wherein an active ingredient is highly soluble in a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer and the active ingredient is not adsorbed to a backing, and the patch per se can follow the irregularities on the skin surface or body movements. The patch is an external patch containing, as a female hormone, a follicular hormone estradiol and/or its derivative or a progestational hormone norethisterone and/or its derivative. The external patch comprises an acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive containing 0.01 to 1% by weight of an isocyanate-based crosslinking agent as an essential ingredient.
