A variety of instructions are inputted through different input modes on a single touch panel. Calculator calculates the coordinates of the contact point on the touch panel . Area table has a flag assigned to each area in each image for indicating that the segment is a continuous press input area. Area identifier examines the area table whether the contact point on the panel is in the continuous or the instant touch input area. Examined area attribute is saved in an input mode storage . When receiving the mode data from the storage and the coordinates, a screen controller switches the image to another or updates the settings and graphic item in the image. In response to the mode data of the storage and the coordinate data, a parameter setting modifies the parameters of the envelope or effect.

Instruction input device for electronic musical instrument

An electronic musical instrument having a plurality of tone generation channels includes a solo tone channel assignment means and a non-solo tone channel assignment means. The solo tone channel assignment means preferentially operates to assign a solo tone to be generated to an unoccupied one of the plurality of tone generation channels. The assigned channel number is stored in a solo tone channel information memory. The non-solo tone assignment means looks up the solo tone channel information memory upon checking unoccupied channel information, and assigns tone information to an unoccupied channel excluding the channel number recorded in that memory. A solo tone is dynamically assigned to an unoccupied channel. That assigned channel is reserved without being assigned as a non-solo tone channel, and the solo and non-solo tones do not compete in channel assignment.

An electronic musical instrument includes a semi-automatic play timing controlling means responsive to a key-depression by a player for controlling the first timing for tone generation, and an automatic play timing controlling means responsive to a timing information contained in a musical playing data for controlling the second timing for tone generation. The automatic playing is enabled when the key depression is not detected within a predetermined duration of time in the semi-automatic playing with the first timing controlled by the semi-automatic play timing controlling means. In the semi-automatic playing, the key depression timing may be displayed at the second timing controlled by the automatic play timing controlling means for ease of the key depression by the player.

An automatic performance apparatus with the concert magic function includes a memory for storing automatic performance data composed of a sequence of note data. Each note data includes a data of gate time and a data of step time. When it is detected that at least one of the keys corresponding to the sequence of note data is pushed, a current note data of the sequence is read out from the memory. Then, there are executed a sound generation stopping process for a previous note data and a sound generating process for the current note data. When it is detected that all of keys corresponding to the sequence of note data are released, a sound generation stopping instruction is issued and the sound generation for the current note data is stopped in the response to the sound generation stopping instruction. The sound generating process and the sound generation stopping process are executed using a reference time period which is determined based on a tempo. The tempo can be changed on the way of performance of a music.

An electric stringed instrument having an integral accompaniment system is proposed. The vibrations of the strings on the electric stringed instrument are detected as analog signals by a pickup device. A portion of the detected signal is extracted, has its voltage adjusted, is converted into a digital signal, and is read into a CPU as a digital signal within a range of 0-5 volts. An amplification factor of the digital signal is determined according to sound volume data included in accompaniment data stored within the accompaniment system, and the proportion of sound volume between the player's performance and an automatically generated accompaniment is adjusted by multiplying the sound volume of the player's performance, or of the accompaniment, by the amplification factor. The sound volume adjustment is effected only once and only when an automatic balancing switch provided on the instrument is depressed.

A tempo setting apparatus and a parameter setting apparatus for an electronic musical instrument. The tempo setting apparatus automatically plays out a rhythm based on a set of rhythm performance data selected from plural sets of rhythm performance data stored in storage means. The tempo setting apparatus includes means for defining a standard tempo value for a rhythm to be played-out based on the selected rhythm performance data, a tempo setting device having a pointer that is movable in a predetermined range with a click at a null adjusting point, calculating means for associating the standard tempo value defined by the standard tempo defining means with an adjusting point of the tempo setting device and for calculating a new tempo value based on the standard tempo value and in accordance with an offset of the indicated position of the tempo setting device from the null adjusting point, and control means for setting the tempo value calculated by the calculating means as a tempo value for a rhythm to be automatically performed based on the predetermined rhythm performance data. The parameter setting apparatus includes a tempo defining means for defining a tempo value for a rhythm performance, a mode switch for instructing a mode change to the system set mode, and control means for accomplishing the mode change to the system set mode only if a minimum or maximum tempo value is defined by the tempo defining means when a mode change to the system set mode is instructed by the mode switch.
