An apparatus and method of communication in a network includes a hub having a burst time plan generating section to generate a burst time plan including time slot allocation information that allocated transmission time slots in a subsequent frame to remote terminals. The allocation information identifies at least one time slot in the subsequent frame as a dummy time slot assigned to at least one remote terminal already acquired in the network. The hub also includes a transmitter to transmit the burst time plan including the allocation information. A corresponding remote terminal and computer readable media are also discussed.

Apparatus and method to secure acquisition and contention burst activity in a communication network

An apparatus and method of communication in a network includes a hub having a burst time plan generating section to generate a burst time plan including time slot allocation information that allocates transmission time slots in a subsequent frame to remote terminals. The allocation information identifies at least one time slot in the subsequent frame as a dummy time slot assigned to at least one remote terminal already acquired in the network. The hub also includes a transmitter to transmit the burst time plan including the allocation information. A corresponding remote terminal and computer readable media are also discussed.

A rain diversity switchover system includes a diversity Satellite Access Station (SAS) including a transmitter modem and a receiver modem in communication with a satellite. The system further includes a primary SAS including a transmitter modem and a receiver modem in communication with the satellite via a second satellite antenna, where the transmitter and receiver modems of the primary SAS are synchronized with the transmitter and receiver modems of the diversity SAS via a common time source. Further, a hub data processor adjusts a timing of transmissions from the diversity SAS to the satellite relative to the common time source in accordance with a difference between a time of flight from the diversity SAS to the satellite and a time of flight from the primary SAS to the satellite. Additionally, a switchover controller controls a rain diversity switchover between the primary SAS and the diversity SAS.

Method and apparatus for satellite communication with baseband switching over an IP network

A method of communicating via a satellite using a remote apparatus includes determining a geographical location of the remote apparatus, and determining a local data set corresponding to the geographical location. The data set includes communication parameters for a communication conducted by the remote apparatus from the geographical location. The method also includes retrieving the local data set from a global data set stored entirely in a memory of the remote apparatus, and conducting the communication via the satellite by the remote apparatus according to the communication parameters. The global data set includes local data sets corresponding to every geographical location in the world. A corresponding apparatus, a method and apparatus for generating a global data set, and a satellite communication system are also disclosed.

A frequency offset estimation and correction apparatus including a frame averaging unit to average a plurality of frequency offset values to obtain a frame offset average for each of a plurality of frames, a re-sampling unit to produce a plurality of interpolated frequency offset values uniformly distributed over a time period of a frame of the plurality of frames based on the frame offset average of the frame and a frame offset average of at least one frame that precedes the frame, and an exponential averaging unit to calculate the estimated frequency offset based on the plurality of interpolated frequency offset values weighted by an exponential averaging coefficient.
