A method and system for debugging a computer upon a kernel hang and/or upon a software failure, the method comprising executing a debugger on a remote computer, connecting the hung or crashed computer to the remote computer with a communications link, and debugging the hung or crashed computer with the debugger without rebooting the system. The method may include deconfiguring any kernel driver of the computer attached to the communication card prior to connecting the remote debugger to the computer.

Method and system for remotely debugging a hung or crashed computing system

An embodiment of a method of maintaining operation of a cluster of computing devices includes an initial step of detecting a suspended kernel process on a first of the computing devices. In addition to the step of detecting the suspended kernel process the method includes the step of issuing a first signal that causes a cluster management process to disregard the first of the computing devices when determining if there exists a quorum of the computing devices.

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for dumping memory. More particularly a computer-implemented method of saving at least some data within volatile storage to non-volatile storage when a computer system panics is described. The method includes the steps of: the computer system defining a specified portion of volatile storage () containing data to be saved as a dump device (), rebooting () the computer system without affecting the data within the dump device, and the computer system copying () the data in the dump device to non-volatile storage (). A reboot of the computer system after copying the data to non-volatile storage is not necessary for the computer system to begin () normal operation.

Method and apparatus for dumping memory

An integrated tool which allows layouts for cells to be generated using a combination of synthesis, migration and manual approaches. In an embodiment, a compaction tool of a migration engine/module is used to perform incremental compaction. Various utilities are developed to enable the use of the compaction tool. For example, when using synthesis to generate layout for a new combinational cell, a utility to generate inputs to the migration engine from pre-compaction representation of the synthesis tool is provided according to an aspect of the present invention. Another utility generates a device table indicating the manner in which each component of a pre-existing layout needs to be modified to generate a layout consistent with a target netlist. The device table and the pre-existing layout can be provided as an input to the migration engine to perform incremental compaction.
