The present invention exploits reactive organophosphorus compounds containing unsaturated vinyl groups, which can be used in a flexible and highly controlled manner to prepare various macromolecular derivatives either via radical reactions or via Michael addition with suitable nucleophiles. Based on the fact that secondary amine groups on the one hand and vinyl groups on the other hand can work as mutual linking sites, an arsenal of novel and useful addition products can be built up. By selecting the number of secondary amine sites and vinyl sites of the participating reaction partners, very different addition products can be formed. In particular, one can form either linear chain type macromolecules (i.e. linear oligomers or polymers) or highly crosslinked network polymers.

Phosphorus containing oligomers and polymers

Described herein are compounds for use in coating compositions and methods of using the same. Also described herein is a method of treating metal products (e.g., aluminum alloy products), including applying the coating composition to at least one surface of the metal product. Further described herein is a joined structure, including the coated aluminum alloy product and another metal or alloy. The coating compositions enhance the bond performance of the joined structures.

Flame retardants

The invention relates to novel and improved halogen-free flame retardant compounds having the structure of Formula (I): wherein: Rand Rare independently hydrogen, C-Calkyl, &#x2014;P(O)(OR), &#x2014;P(O)ORR, or &#x2014;P(O)R, wherein Rand Rare independently C-Calkyl, C-Caryl, C-Caralkyl or C-Calkaryl; or Rand Rtaken together form an unsaturated cyclic ring, which is optionally substituted by an alkyl group; each k is independently an integer from 1 to 2; each X is independently oxygen (O) or sulphur (S); v is 0 or 1; each Y is independently C-Calkylene, Carylene, C-Caralkylene, C-Calkarylene, oxygen (O), nitrogen (NR), wherein R is H or C-Calkyl; n is 0, 1 or 2 with the proviso that n is 1 when Y is oxygen (O) or nitrogen (NR); each Z is independently C-Calkylene, Carylene, C-Caralkylene or C-Cis alkarylene; m is independently 0, 1 or 2; with the proviso that when Y is oxygen (O) or nitrogen (N), m cannot be 0; each Q is independently C-Calkylene; t is an integer from 1 to 2; W is oxygen (O) or sulphur (S). The compounds are particularly suited as flame retardant additives for thermoplastic polyesters.

DOPO-based hybrid flame retardants

A group of novel compounds containing one or more amino substituted DOPO (9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-phosphaphenthren-10-oxide) moieties. The compounds were found to have good flame retardant properties and also good thermal stability, which makes them particularly suitable as flame retardant additives for various thermoplastic polymers. In particular, they can be incorporated in a polyurethane foam.
