The present invention primarily relates to the use of a fatty acid ester or of a mixture of two or more fatty acid esters or of a mixture comprising one or more fatty acid esters, wherein the fatty acid ester or one, two, three or more, preferably all, of the fatty acid ester(s) is/are selected from the group consisting of 3-hydroxypropyl caprylate, 3-hydroxypropyl undecylenate and glyceryl monoundecylenate, for modifying the physicochemical properties of a skin care product. The present invention further relates to methods for modifying the physicochemical properties of a skin care product as well as to methods for manufacturing a skin care product and to particular skin care products.

The present invention is in the field of antioxidants and relates to cosmetic or pharmaceutical, preferably dermatological, compositions or homecare product comprising or consisting of a synergistic combination of a specific antioxidant and an effective amount of 1,2-heptanediol and/or 2,3-heptanediol or of a specific alkanediol or a mixture of two or more different specific alkanediols and the use of said compositions as a cosmetic, for personal care, as a pharmaceutical or homecare product, in particular for scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS), for inhibition matrix metalloproteinases expression and/or for inhibiting interleukin 8 (IL-8) secretion. The present disclosure relates to a surfactant-containing preparation comprising one or more alcohols and one or more anionic surfactants, wherein the preparation is an O/W emulsion, the particle size distribution for which the following applies: D(v, 0.9)=40 &#x3bc;m or less, and wherein the total quantity of the one or more alcohols in the preparation is selected in such a way that the preparation, compared to a comparison preparation which having an otherwise identical composition does not comprise any alcohol of the formula (I), has an increased viscosity at 22.7 &#xb0; C.
