A method for dehalogenation of aqueous compositions contaminated with halogenated aliphatic and alicyclic hydrocarbons is provided which comprises contacting an aqueous composition with an amount of a mixed metal composition effective to dehalogenate the halogenated aliphatic and alicyclic hydrocarbons at a temperature of at least 10&deg; C., wherein the mixed metal composition comprises a second metal selected from the group consisting of copper, cobalt, nickel, molybdenum, bismuth, tin, lead, silver, chromium, palladium, platinum and gold deposited on an anchor metal consisting essentially of iron metal and wherein the amount of second metal in the mixed metal composition is an amount effective to increase the dehalogenation rate compared to use of iron alone, and the surface of the mixed metal composition has exposed iron metal.

In-situ remediation of contaminated soils

The present invention is directed to a solid poly-amphiphilic polymer. The polymer may be (1) a continuous film (a) which is strengthened sufficiently by cross-linking to be used alone and/or supported on a frame, (b) overlaid and/or cast on a porous hydrophobic support or (2) introduced into the pores of a microporous hydrophobic membrane. A process for the in-situ remediation of a contaminated heterogeneous soil region comprising: (a) introducing material for treating contaminants in a contaminated heterogeneous soil region into at least one liquid permeable region within the contaminated heterogeneous soil region to form at least one treating zone within the contaminated heterogeneous soil region, (b) transmitting direct electric current through at least one low permeability soil region within the contaminated heterogeneous soil region between a first electrode and a second electrode having opposite charge, wherein (i) the first electrode is located at a first end of the contaminated heterogeneous soil region and the second electrode is located at the opposite end of the contaminated heterogeneous soil region or (ii) the first electrode is located at a first end of each of the low permeability soil regions and the second electrode is located at the opposite end of each of the low permeability soil regions, (1) to cause an electroosmotic flow from the second electrode to the first electrode, (2) to cause an electromigratory movement of ionic contaminants in a direction toward the electrode of opposite charge, or (3) to cause an electroosmotic flow from the second electrode to the first electrode and an electromigratory movement of ionic contaminants in a direction toward the electrode of opposite charge, and (c) applying a hydraulic gradient across the contaminated heterogeneous soil region to cause a hydraulic flow from the high pressure end of the contaminated heterogeneous soil region to the low pressure end of the contaminated heterogeneous soil region.

A method for the solubilization and naturation of somatotropin from refractile bodies produced by r-DNA technology wherein the refractile bodies are dissolved in an aqueous solution comprising a chaotropic agent such as urea or guanidine hydrochloride and a soluble organic alcohol such as isopropanol or benzyl alcohol. The solubilized protein is exposed to mild oxidation for a time sufficient to allow the protein to form disulfide bonds and refold to its native conformation. The presence of the alcohol suppresses the formation of somatotropin dimers and aggregates and results in higher yields of the desirable monomeric form of the protein.

A method for the solubilization and naturation of somatotropin from refractile bodies produced by r-DNA technology wherein the refractile bodies are dissolved in an aqueous solution comprising a chaotropic agent such as urea or guanidine hydrochloride and a soluble surfactant such as sodium dodecylsulfate. The solubilized protein is exposed to mild oxidation for a time sufficient to allow the protein to form disulfide bonds and refold to its native conformation. The presence of the surfactant suppresses the formation of somatotropin dimers and aggregates and results in higher yields of the desirable monomeric form of the protein.

Method of somatotropin naturation

A method of separating a first polypeptide fraction from a second polypeptide fraction of a mixed solution is disclosed. A predetermined charged polymer is admixed with the mixed solution preferably in the presence of a neutral polymer. The charged polymer interacts with the first fraction to form a precipitate. The neutral polymer enhances the effectiveness of the charged polymer in precipitating the first fraction. By proper selection of the polymer combination the desired polypeptide fraction can be precipitated from solution leaving the other polypeptide fraction in solution or vice versa.

Method for separating polypeptides

An improved process for the preparation of 4-methyl thiazole is disclosed. The process utilizes a substituted imine and sulfur dioxide heated in the presence of a catalyst. The thiazoles are known important chemical intermediates.
