A non-film forming, aqueous composition is disclosed for cleaning and for killing and inhibiting the regrowth of fungi and algae on a solid surface. The composition comprises a water-insoluble compound selected from the group consisting of a fungicide, an algicide and a mixture thereof dispersed in the composition, a detergent, a thickener, an oxidizing agent and water. Also disclosed is the composition in a two package form in which the oxidizing agent and at least a portion of the water are in one package, and the fungicide, algicide or mixture thereof, the detergent, the thickener, and optionally a portion of the water are in another package. Also disclosed is a process for cleaning a solid surface with the aqueous composition.

Coating compositions can be applied to substrates to produce a smooth finish by the use of a coating applicator having a mat of sized glass fibers and/or strands having fibers and/or strands projecting from the surface of the mat. The coating applicator has a core with two surfaces, a mat of sized glass fibers with projecting fibers and/or strands attached to one surface of the core. The glass fibers within the strands have a residue of a sizing composition having a carrier, a film forming polymer, and compatible coupling agent. The glass fibers within the strand may be selected from bulked, texturized, hollow, hollow with etching and solid continuous and staple glass fibers and mixtures thereof. The thickness of the mat on the core to comprise the applicator is in the range of about 0.125 to about 2 inches (3 to 50 mm.).

Applicator for applying a coating to a surface

Coating compositions can be applied to substrates to produce a novelty finish by the use of a coating applicator having a mat of sized glass fibers and/or strands in contact with the coating. The novelty finish achieved with the glass fiber strand coating applicator has continuity of pattern, which is achieved in a fascile and efficient manner. The coating applicator has a core with an inner and outer surface and mat of sized glass fiber attached to the outer surface. The glass fibers have a residue of a sizing composition having a carrier, a film forming polymer, and compatible coupling agent. The one or more glass fibers may be selected from bulked, texturized, hollow, hollow with etching and solid continuous and staple glass fibers and mixtures thereof. The thickness of the mat on the core to comprise the applicator is in the range of about 0.125 to about 2 inches (3 to 50 mm.).

Disclosed is a method to inhibit the formation of a paint-product skin on the interior surface of the lid of a closed upright vessel housing a paint composition wherein a portion of said composition is volatile. The method comprises delivering said paint composition to an upright, open vessel closeable at its top with a lid; delivering a sufficient quantity of a barrier material to the open vessel to provide a covering layer of the barrier material for the top of the paint composition; and closing the open vessel at its top with a lid. The barrier material is characterized as (1) less dense than the paint composition; (2) containing a volatile portion whose volatility is at least substantially equivalent to the volatility of the volatile portion of the paint composition; and (3) sufficiently compatible with the paint composition to become a mixed non-detrimental component thereof upon adequate mixing therewith.
