A hard disk drive includes a base deck with a floor portion and a side wall portion. The floor portion extends between an upper surface and a bottom surface, and the side wall portion extends from the floor portion. A top cover is coupled to the base deck and includes a ceiling portion and a wall portion. The hard disk drive includes a weld that directly couples the wall portion of the top cover to the floor portion of the base deck.

Welded base and cover for hard disk drives

A hard disc drive includes a base deck, a cover welded to the base deck, and a voice coil motor. The voice coil motor includes a first voice coil motor assembly and a second voice coil motor assembly. Either one or both of the first and second voice coil motor assemblies can be welded to the base deck.

Ultrasonic welding for sealing electronic devices

In certain embodiments, a hard disk drive includes at least one disk secured to a motor hub with a disk clamp. The disk clamp is positioned radially off-center with respect to the hub to balance a static drive imbalance. In certain embodiments, a method includes radially offsetting a disk clamp to offset a static drive balance.
