A rate reducer is provided that can be employed in a firearm capable of fully automatic fire to reduce the cyclic rate of firing. The rate reducer can be employed in newly manufactured firearms or in existing firearms by replacing the conventional automatic sear of the firearm with the rate reducer.

Rate control mechanism for fully automatic firearms

Charging handles having a mechanical advantage separator for separating an end of the charging handle from a portion of a firearm are disclosed. Specifically, charging handles having a simple machine, such as a lever, are disclosed. Advantageously, the simple machine can multiply the force applied by a user on the charging handle. Additionally, in at least some instances, the simple machine will actuate a charging handle latch so as to disengage the charging handle latch from a receiver of the firearm.

Certain embodiments disclose rate reducer systems and methods to reduce the cyclic rate of self-powered firearms. The reduction in cyclic rate is achieved by mechanically delaying the firing step in the cycle of functioning. This delay is achieved by temporarily latching an inertia weight at the rear of the recoil stroke while the recoiling parts return to battery (i.e. a firing position). When the recoiling parts go into battery, the inertia weight is released and urged forward. At the forward end of its travel, the inertia weight actuates the firing mechanism.

Rate control mechanism

A high pressure cartridge case is provided for firearms with blowback operating systems. The cartridge case is provided with a primer support member that supports a primer in a rearward end of a cartridge case. The support member is slideable rearwardly in the cartridge case when the cartridge is fired. The components expand to seal with the cartridge case to prevent the escape of gas around the support member when the propellant is ignited.

A cartridge for firearms includes a bullet connected to a casing. The casing includes a cylindrical wall that extends to an end member opposite the bullet, a hollow interior formed by the wall and the end member, and a receptacle for receiving a priming composition. Anvils or projections are provided in the casing to compress the priming composition between the end member and the projection or anvil with a firing pin engaging the end member. Propellant in the hollow interior is ignited by the compressed priming composition.

Cartridge for a firearm

A firearm cartridge is provided with a case body and a piston head. The piston head is movably engaged with a rearward end of the case body. The piston head seals the rearward end of the case body to contain propellant gases in the case body when the firearm cartridge is fired.

A cartridge for firearms includes a bullet connected to a casing. The casing includes a cylindrical wall that extends to an end member opposite the bullet, a hollow interior formed by the wall and the end member, means for receiving a priming composition, and means for compressing the priming composition with a firing pin engaging the end member. Propellant is placed in the hollow interior and ignited by the compressed priming composition.

The bolt of a blowback operated weapon is driven rearward by multiplying the area acted upon by pressurized gas generated by a subcaliber bulleted cartridge or a blank cartridge fired in a subcaliber barrel inserted into the weapon barrel and attached to the weapon barrel muzzle.
