A motor is cooled with a coolant. The motor includes a rotor rotatable about an axis, a stator including a stator core and windings wound about the stator core, a housing enclosing at least a portion of the stator, and a resiliently deflectable spray ring extending circumferentially relative to the axis. The spray ring defines at least one orifice configured to direct coolant on the stator. The spray ring presents first and second arcuately spaced apart ends defining a gap therebetween.

An impeller assembly includes a molded impeller and an insert within the impeller. The insert includes an unthreaded sleeve and a shoulder adjacent the sleeve for locating the impeller and the insert during manufacturing and installation. Methods of manufacturing and installing are also disclosed.

An air conditioning (A/C) system includes a condenser and an electric motor that drives a fan to induce air flow through the condenser. The electric motor includes an internal stator assembly and an external rotor assembly rotatable about the internal stator assembly. A housing is attached to the external rotor assembly. The fan is connected to the housing.

A dynamoelectric machine is provided with improved connection structure which does not require external leads and which provides an integral ground connection for the dynamoelectric machine. The dynamoelectric machine is a motor, which includes a stator assembly, having a motor winding which is terminated at the winding ends with quick connected terminals. The motor includes at least one end shield. A terminal receptacle is designed to mount internally of the motor endshield. The terminal receptacle includes provisions for holding the ground terminal positionally, and is provided with a spring loading mechanism for loading the receptacle against the endshield. The terminal receptacle has an external latch which receives an associated terminal block in locking arrangement, normally being accompanied with an audible signal. The receptacle preferably is color coded to give a visual indication as to motor rating or identifying different motor types, for example.

Leadless motor construction

A motor with a hollow housing with an open mouth defined by a side wall, and a cover for its mouth, an electrical motor circuit and power conductors electrically connected to the circuit at one end and adapted to be connected to a source of power at another end, has, when it is assembled, a current supply connecter receptacle. The housing has integral with it, a housing receptacle part with conductor-receiving seats in which the power conductors are seated. The cover has a cover receptacle part integral with the cover. The cover is latched into position, closing the housing mouth and completing the receptacle, by at least one deflectable finger, one end of which is integral with one of the cover and housing and a free end of which is provided with a latching lip, and a complementary ledge integral with the other of the housing and cover, the ledge being spaced and shaped to receive and be engaged by the lip. Provision is made for permitting the lip to be displaced from the ledge to free the cover. Preferably, two fingers, both integral with the cover, are provided, ledges being formed on the housing receptacle part.

An electric motor includes a rotor body having a longitudinal central axis, a longitudinal central opening substantially coaxial with the central axis, a journal bearing which is received in the central opening, a rotor shaft rotatably journaled in the bearing, and a wicking element through which the rotor shaft is journaled. The wicking element is in wicking contact with a source of lubricant and the rotor shaft to deliver lubricant from the source of lubricant to the rotor shaft. The improved wicking element has an opening which positively contacts the rotor shaft at at least one point, and is spaced from the shaft throughout substantially the remainder of the periphery to provide a wick which will improve oil flow to the rotor to improve lubrication of the shaft. Further, the wick is made from a polyester-cotton blend textile which has relatively short fibers. These fibers will not readily separate from the wick.

A HVAC system (10) employs a gas valve (20) to supply gas for combustion within a heating portion (12) of the system. An exhaust (22) removes combustion products using a motor (28) driven exhaust fan (24). An apparatus (34) controls combustion and uses a sensor (36) for sensing the rotational speed of a motor shaft (26). A switch (T1) is responsive to sensed motor speed to open and close the valve, the valve being opened only if the motor is operating within a predetermined speed range. A first speed discriminator (48A) enables of the switch to open the valve when the motor speed exceeds a first predetermined value. A second speed discriminator (48B) disables the switch to close the valve when motor speed exceeds a second and higher predetermined speed which is indicative of a blocked exhaust, or a fan blade is loose. This latter action insures that a build-up of potentially dangerous exhaust gases cannot occur.

An electric motor has stator coils extending longitudinally past an end of its rotor so that the end turns and at least a portion of the inner side of the stator coils are exposed. A fan is disposed inside the motor shell between a first air passageway and the stator coils. The fan is secured to and driven by the rotor shaft to cause a flow of cooling air to pass over the stator coils when the motor is in operation. The fan has a number of vanes extending outwardly from a hub to a circumferential ring, which ring defines a central opening of the fan. The central opening extends past the vanes from the front to the rear of the fan so that the rear of the fan is relatively open. The inner surface of the ring is smoothly curved outwardly and rearwardly from the front of the central opening to direct air which enters the central opening toward the stator coils. The vanes are disposed adjacent the exposed portions of the stator coils to cause turbulent air flow along the exposed portions.

A dynamoelectric machine (e.g., an induction motor for an overhead ceiling fan or the like) is disclosed having a stator assembly and a rotor assembly with the stator assembly comprising a bearing support or end shield, a core mounted within the bearing support with the core having a bore therethrough for rotatably receiving the rotor body of the rotor assembly. The end shield has a central shaft stationarily mounted relative thereto and a pair of bearings, preferably ball or roller bearings, is provided for journalling the rotor body on the stationary shaft. More specifically, the rotor assembly includes a hub having a generally cylindrical body on which the rotor body is secured by means of an interference or shrink fit with the hub body having a longitudinal central opening therethrough receiving the stationary shaft and further having a mounting flange on its outer end.
