A Breath Actuated Inhaler having a canister with a medication dispensed when compressing the canister. Compression of the canister is prevented by a mechanism only allowing compression when an air flow is sufficient to ensure dispensing of the medication in the lungs/throat of the person. No latch or blocking mechanism is provided so that any force exerted by the person is, at all times, directed to the canister or preventing mechanism so that when no force is exerted by the user, no force is exerted in the inhaler. Prolonged exertion of such force could otherwise cause dimension changes and subsequent uncertainty of the dose size.

Inhaler and a method of operating it

The present invention relates to a device for dispensing a medicament from a pressurised canister comprising a mouthpiece, a seat for engagement with the top of the canister and a housing provided with means for guiding and/or holding the canister.

Device for dispension

It is an object of the present invention to provide a mechanical blocking device by means of which the user will only be able to initiate an event by activating a stroke of the button or lever past the activation point of the event. Should the movement of the button or lever be stopped or the direction changed before reaching the activation point, retaining means will hinder further movement in the first direction before the lever or button has been brought back to its starting position.

Mechanical return blocking device

An inhaler for delivering medicament by inhalation, comprising a housing for holding a canister of medicament having a body and a valve stem compressible together to actuate the canister to deliver a dose of medicament from the valve stem, an actuation mechanism for compressing the canister, a cannister re-set mechanism comprising a locking element for locking the canister in a compressed state and a release member resiliently biassed by the actuation mechanism on compression of the canister to release the locking mechanism to allow reset of the canister. By provision of the locking element for locking the canister in a compressed state, it is possible to ensure re-set does not occur immediately. The release member subsequently releases the locking mechanism to allow re-set of the canister after a proper dose has been delivered. The cannister reset mechanism further comprises a damping element for damping movement of the release member to delay the action of the resilient biassing to release the locking element a predetermined period of time after actuation of the canister.
