A method and system of deployment of a virtualized service on a cloud infrastructure while taking into consideration variability/elasticity of the cloud resources are described. A first service function specification is selected. Candidate computing systems and candidate links are determined. The determination of the candidates is performed based on the availability and characteristics of the computing systems and the network resources in the cloud infrastructure which includes varying characteristics. A first computing system and one or more links are determined from the candidates for placing the first service function in the cloud infrastructure.

Joint consideration of service function placement and definition for deployment of a virtualized service

Embodiments described herein relate to methods and apparatuses for providing a back-up service. A method in a reliability lifecycle manager (RLCM) is provided for managing orchestration of a back-up service for an original service. The method comprises receiving an indication of successful deployment of at least a first part of an original service from a first network domain, wherein the at least part of the original service comprises at least a first network function; responsive to the indication, transmitting a restoration preparation request to the first network domain to request that the first network domain initiate determination of a back-up service for the first part of the original service, the back-up service comprising a first back-up network domain capable of deploying the first network function, wherein the first back-up network domain is different to a first original network domain deploying the first network function in the original service; and responsive to transmitting the restoration preparation request, receiving a restoration response comprising an indication of the back-up service.

Methods and apparatuses for providing a back-up service

A method and system of deployment of a virtualized service on a cloud infrastructure are described. A first service function specification of a first service function is selected. A determination of a set of the computing systems and a set of the links is performed based on availability and characteristics of the computing systems and the network resources in the cloud infrastructure, A selection of a first computing system to be assigned to host the first service function and links is performed based on the first service function specification. In response to determining that there is one or more the service functions that are not yet assigned, the selection of the service function and the determination of the computing system and links are repeated for each remaining functions until all of service function are assigned to computing and networking resources in the cloud infrastructure.

Methods and apparatus are provided. In an example aspect, a method of storing data in a communication system is provided. The data comprises n data blocks, and k data blocks of the n data blocks are required to recover the data. The communication system includes a plurality of clusters of data storage nodes including a first cluster that is a closest cluster of the plurality of clusters to a source of the data. The method comprises receiving, from a node associated with a respective network operator of each of the clusters of storage nodes, information identifying the data storage nodes that are in each of the clusters. The method also comprises causing each of at least k data blocks of the n data blocks to be stored in a different storage node in the first cluster.

Managing data storage in a communication system

A computer-implemented method for aggregating and exposing infrastructure capability information is provided. The method includes extracting infrastructure capability information, wherein the infrastructure capability information includes available resource types and, for each available resource type, first attribute information including a first attribute name and a first attribute value. The method further includes, for each available resource type: determining whether the first attribute value is a literal type attribute value or a numerical type attribute value; for an attribute value determined to be the literal type, aggregating the first attribute information to generate aggregated literal attributes information; and for an attribute value determined to be the numerical type, aggregating the first attribute information to generate aggregated numerical attributes information. The method further includes receiving a request for a resource including requested resource types and, for each requested resource type, second attribute information including a second attribute name and a second attribute value. The method further includes, for each requested resource type: determining whether the second attribute value is a literal type attribute value or a numerical type attribute value; for an attribute value determined to be the literal type, processing the second attribute information to generate processed second attribute information and comparing the processed second attribute information with the aggregated literal attributes information to determine whether the requested resource matches the available resource types; and for an attribute value determined to be the numerical type, comparing the second attribute information with the aggregated numerical attributes information to determine whether the requested resource matches the available resource types.

Method and apparatus for infrastructure capability aggregation and exposure

In a method performed by a first node associated with a first domain of a communications network, a first message is sent (302) to a second node associated with a second domain of the communications network. The first message comprises an indication of a resource in the first domain that is available to the second domain. The first message further comprises an anonymised first global unique identifier associated with the first domain.

Methods, nodes and systems in a communication network

A first orchestrator (-) for a first domain (-) is configured for multi-domain orchestration. The first orchestrator (-) receives an inbound orchestration request () that requests orchestration of one or more inbound targets () and that includes one or more records (). The one or more records () either indicate an ancestry of each of the one or more inbound targets () or indicate an ancestry of the inbound orchestration request (). Multi-domain orchestration

Embodiments described herein provide methods and apparatus for life cycle management in virtual networks. A method, in a Life Cycle Management, LCM, component in a virtual network, wherein the virtual network comprises a first orchestration layer comprising a first network function virtualisation orchestrator, NFVO, and a second orchestration layer, subordinate to the first orchestration layer, comprising a second NF VO, comprises: receiving a first request, from the first NFVO, to determine a first substitution for a first VNF in a first network service request, wherein the first substitution maps the first network service request onto the second orchestration layer; and responsive to a determination, based on a topology of the second orchestration layer, that the first substitution comprises a second VNF associated with the second NFVO, receiving a second request from the second NFVO to provide a second substitution for the second VNF in a second network service request, wherein the second substitution maps the second network service request onto a third network layer, and the second network service request implements at least part of the first network service request.

Methods and apparatus for life cycle management in virtual networks

Certain embodiments relate to a method for assigning, by a resource orchestration entity, resources for a service carried out on a data packet flow in a multilayer network, the method comprising determining software requirements and network requirements necessary for the service wherein the software requirements and network requirements are received by the network resource orchestration entity from an upper layer through a northbound interface; determining a virtual network topology of the network with at least one virtual network entity, the virtual network entity comprising entity computing resources and entity network resources; and assigning the software requirements and the network requirements at least partially to the entity computing resources and the entity network resources.

Mapping of service requirements for a virtualized network on a packet flow

A method for adapting the data traffic of a communication between a user equipment and a communication network. The user equipment includes an entity for providing a service associated to the communication. The method includes determining actual operational status information of the service providing entity and creating an usage indicator based on said operational status information. Further the method includes the steps of sending the usage indicator to the communication network and adapting the data traffic of the communication in accordance with the usage indicator. A related user equipment provides the usage indicator to the communication network. A related traffic controller of a communication network adapts the data traffic of a communication between the user equipment and the communication network.

Method and apparatus to adapt the data traffic of a communication between a user equipment and a communication network

A system and a method are described herein which provide for congestion handling in a packet switched network domain. In case of congestion overload is measured by a core node, the data packets in proportion to the overload are marked and the signaled overload is stored. At least one egress node receives marked and not marked packets, decodes and counts the overload from the marked packets in a counting interval. Congestion report messages are sent to ingress nodes where flows are terminated.

A system and a method are described herein which provide for congestion handling in a packet switched network domain. In case of congestion, overload is measured by a core node, the data packets in proportion to the overload are marked and the signaled overload is stored. At least one egress node receives marked and not marked packets, decodes and counts the overload from the marked packets in a counting interval. A gateway and method for distinguishing between different types of messages without requiring the gateway to be fully aware of the communication protocol. The gateway passes through messages from application entities to network elements and vice versa. The gateway determines a transaction identifier or sequence step information, and compares the transaction identifier or sequence step information with ones previously stored. The comparison result is used to determine whether a message is an initial message or a response message to the initial message, and whether the message is a first or subsequent message, respectively.
