What is disclosed are novel compositions of matter which are useful as primers to bind room-temperature curable silicone, and silicone-modified rubbers, to various substrates. An example is the use of a mixture which is a reaction product of methyltrimethoxysilane and a bisphenol resin; an epoxyfunctional silane, and tetrabutyl titanate, to bond a room-temperature curable silicone rubber, which cures by a reaction which eliminates alcohol as a by-product, to an aluminum substrate.

The silicone rubber adhesive of the present invention is composed of a particular organopolysiloxane, condensation reaction catalyst and organoperoxide in restricted blending ratios. As a result, a characteristic of the present invention is that various organic materials may be tightly and durably bonded to silicone rubbers by applying the adhesive of the present invention to the surface of a cured silicone rubber and laying on and then curing an organic material such as a synthetic rubber composition, for example, ethylene-propylene terpolymer rubber or chloroprene rubber, or a phenol resin, epoxy resin, etc. In addition, it is also a characteristic of the present invention that silicone rubber may be tightly bonded to various materials by applying the silicone rubber adhesive of the present invention to various organic materials as mentioned above, bringing a silicone rubber composition which contains a curing catalyst into contact and then curing.

Room temperature-curable organopolysiloxane compositions are made from essentially linear organopolysiloxanes having hydroxyl or hydrolyzable end groups, a crosslinking agent, a filler, optionally a curing catalyst, an unsaturated ester having at least ten carbon atoms in the unsaturated fatty acid component of the ester, and a photosensitizer. These compositions cure to elastomeric materials which do not soil on the surface or the surrounding areas of the substrate in contact with the cure product. Silicone rubbers and silicone-modified organic rubbers are strongly adhered to various substrates using primer compositions comprising the combination of (1) a silicone-modified epoxy resin containing both epoxide and silicon-bonded alkoxy groups, and (2) an aminoalkylsilane.

A primer composition which has excellent durability when immersed in water is made from a silicone-modified epoxy resin, an aminoxy silicon compound, and an organotitanate. The primer composition is particularly useful for bonding room temperature vulcanizable silicone rubber or room temperature vulcanizable silicone-modified organic rubber to building substrate materials.

What is disclosed herein is a room temperature curable, one component epoxy resin modified silicone resin which has excellent heat resistance, adhesiveness to substrates, and is hard. The improvements in properaties are obtained by the use of epoxy fatty acid esters in the coating formulation.

Organopolysiloxane composition

Compositions containing siloxane-modified epoxy resins, epoxy, methacryl, or amino organofunctional alkoxysilicon compound and conventional epoxy curing agents are described which have improved resistance to degradation of both electrical properties and adhesion when exposed to moisture or boiling water. The compositions consist essentially of (A) siloxane-modified epoxy resin, (B) an organofunctional alkoxysilicon compound such as .gamma.-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane, .gamma.-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane, or .gamma.-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane, and (C) curing agents such as carboxylic acid anhydrides.

Siloxane-modified epoxy resin compositions

Compositions containing siloxane-modified epoxy resins, alkoxy functional organopolysiloxane and conventional epoxy curing agents are described which have improved resistance to degradation of electrical properties by boiling water and moisture. The compositions consist essentially of (A) siloxane-modified epoxy resin, (B) alkoxy functional organopolysiloxane such as polymethylmethoxysiloxane and (C) curing agents such as carboxylic acid anhydrides.
