A failure diagnosis apparatus according to the present disclosure is applied to a variable compression ratio mechanism that can switch the compression ratio of an internal combustion engine between at least a first compression ratio and a second compression ratio lower than the first compression ratio. When the variable compression ratio mechanism is controlled so as to set the compression ratio of the internal combustion engine to the second compression ratio, the failure diagnosis apparatus advances the ignition timing of one cylinder to a knock inducing ignition timing more advanced than the MBT that does not lead to the occurrence of knock if the actual compression ratio of that cylinder is the second compression ratio but leads to the occurrence of knock if the actual compression ratio of that cylinder is the first compression ratio and diagnoses failure of the variable compression ratio mechanism on the basis of whether knock occurs or not.

Failure diagnosis apparatus for variable compression ratio mechanism

A target air amount for achieving a requested torque is back-calculated from the requested torque using a virtual air-fuel ratio. The virtual air-fuel ratio is changed from a first air-fuel ratio to a second air-fuel ratio in response to a condition for switching an operation mode from operation in the first air-fuel ratio to operation in the second air-fuel ratio being satisfied. Subsequently, the control device calculates an estimated value of the intake valve flow rate based on the first relation and the second relation, and regulates a correspondence relation of the estimated value of the waste gate valve opening and the manipulated variable of the waste gate valve based on a comparison result of the estimated value of the intake valve flow rate and a measured value of an intake flow rate.

Control apparatus for internal combustion engine

A control device for an internal combustion engine is provided. The control device includes means which controls fuel injection by a fuel injection device, and means which controls the throttle. The fuel injection control means sequentially restarts fuel injection for each cylinder in accordance with an ignition sequence among cylinders when cancellation conditions of fuel cut are satisfied during implementation of the fuel cut. Meanwhile, the throttle control means firstly controls the throttle to a closing side when the cancellation conditions of fuel cut are satisfied. The throttle is controlled to the closing side, whereby the air amount in the intake pipe is decreased, and the air amount in a cylinder which is the basis of calculation of a fuel injection amount is also decreased.
