A liquid crystal composition including an antioxidant, and a liquid crystal display device containing this composition are described. The liquid crystal composition has a nematic phase, has a high solubility in a liquid crystal composition, and includes a specific antioxidant useful for preventing deterioration of the composition. The liquid crystal composition may also include a specific compound having a high maximum temperature or a small viscosity as a first component, a specific compound having a high maximum temperature or a large dielectric anisotropy as a second component, and a specific compound having a large negative dielectric anisotropy as a third component.

Liquid crystal composition, antioxidant and liquid crystal display device

A compound represented by the formula (1) is provided. A polymerizable liquid crystal composition containing the compound can be controlled in birefringence and is excellent in stability of a liquid crystal phase. An anisotropic polymer excellent in uniformity of alignment is obtained by coating and polymerizing the composition on a supporting substrate. In the formula (1), at least one of Rrepresents a polymerizable group, A represents a ring group, Y and Z each represent a single bond or alkylene; in which &#x2014;CH&#x2014; in the alkylene may be replaced by another group, and m and n each represent an integer of from 0 to 5.

A cholesteric polymerizable liquid crystal composition excellent in UV curing property and alignment property is provided. The polymerizable liquid crystal composition contains at least one liquid crystal compound selected from compounds represented by Formula (1-1) and Formula (1-2), at least one liquid crystal compound selected from compounds represented by Formula (2), and 5 to 15% by weight of at least one optically active compound selected from compounds represented by Formula (4) and may contain at least one liquid crystal compound selected from compounds represented by Formula (3). A polymerizable liquid crystal composition containing compounds represented by the formula (1-1) and the formula (1-2), compounds represented by the formula (2-1) and the formula (2-2), and a compound represented by the formula (3-1):the polymerizable liquid crystal composition having homogeneous, homeotropic, or hybrid alignment, which can be coated on a support substrate, for example, of a transparent plastic film such as a triacetyl cellulose film or cycloolefin polymer film, or glass, and is aligned on a substrate as a polymer film while maintaining the alignment.

Polymerizable liquid crystal composition and polymer thereof

A polymerizable liquid crystal composition excellent in storage stability and UV curing property and a polymer thereof are provided. Provided are a liquid-crystal compound and a liquid-crystal composition containing the compound, of which the advantages are that they show nematic hybrid orientation on a rubbed TAC substrate, they are polymerizable in open air and they readily give a polymer having a high degree of polymerization even when exposed to a relatively small total quantity of light. A polymerizable liquid crystal composition containing compounds represented by the formula (1-1) and the formula (1-2), compounds represented by the formula (2-1) and the formula (2-2), and a compound represented by the formula (3-1): the polymerizable liquid crystal composition having homogeneous, homeotropic, or hybrid alignment, which can be coated on a support substrate, for example, of a transparent plastic film such as a triacetyl cellulose film or cycloolefin polymer film, or glass, and is aligned on a substrate as a polymer film while maintaining the alignment.

The invention further provides a liquid crystal composition comprising at least two compounds, which at least one compound out of them is the above compound.
