An outboard motor is mounted with a multiple-cylinder engine and an intake air is distributed by an intake manifold to respective cylinders of the engine. The intake manifold is formed of synthetic resin and comprises a surge tank and a branch including a plurality of branch sections extending from the surge tank to the respective cylinders. The surge tank and the branch constitute an intake manifold body which is divided along a flow direction of the intake air flowing in the branch sections.

An intermittent oil supply system is provided that discharges intermittently some of the oil supplied to the cam bearing from the oil supply path formed on the axial center of the camshaft and via the journal path toward the side of the cam and the tappet in line with the rotation of the camshaft The intermittent oil supply system is structured so that an oil groove along the axial direction of the camshaft is formed, for example, on the bearing surface of said cam bearing and at least one end of this oil groove opens on the end face of the cam bearing (bearing housing ).

An oil passageway structure for an internal combustion engine which provides a greater degree of freedom in design, prevents oil leakage outside the engine, and avoids the need to change the respective shapes of a cylinder block and a cylinder head, with a concomitant reduction in plant investment. The oil passageway structure includes an oil pipe laid between a passage extending on the downstream side of an oil pump on the side of the cylinder block and an oil control valve on the side of the cylinder head. The oil pipe is positioned inside a chain chamber.

An oil filter attaching structure for an engine has a stand hole communicated with a main oil gallery formed in a lower casing of an engine. The stand hole is formed therein with either one of two different length female threads, one length female thread part is for use without an oil cooler and the other length female thread part is for use with an oil cooler. A filter stand is formed having one end with a male thread part for use without an oil cooler, with a length which is longer than that of the one female thread part. The filter stand is formed with a male thread part on the other end for use with an oil cooler, having a length which is longer than that of the other female thread part. The filter stand has one end screwed into the stand hole. The other end of the filter stand has an oil filter attached. The same filter stand can be used on engines with or without an oil cooler. The filter structure allows visible confirmation of proper assembly.

In an engine, an oil channel arrangement is formed between an outer periphery of a lower-case setting bolt and inner peripheries of a case-side bolt hole and a block-side bolt hole so as to prevent the flow of foreign matters as contained in lubricating oil flowing from a main gallery toward a crank journal. The oil channel has a cross section that varies between the main gallery and the crank journal so as to decrease the flow velocity of the lubricating oil flowing from the main gallery toward the crank journal. The decreased velocity of oil allows the foreign matter to settle by gravitational force in a collecting space.

A cylinder head assembly having a camshaft axially supported by a cylinder head through a camshaft housing having a head oil passageway for guiding lubricating oil to those parts of the cylinder head which require lubrication. The camshaft housing is provided with an oil reserve chamber communicating with the oil head passageway. One end of a through-passageway communicates with an upper part of the oil reserve chamber, and the other end of this through-passageway communicates with a camshaft journal of the camshaft housing.
