Blur-free, high-quality frame image data are generated from field image data. Image data of odd-numbered field images and image data of even-numbered field images are alternately applied every 1/60 of a second. The even field image data are applied to a first memory, and data of odd field images located immediately before and immediately after the even field image are applied to respective ones of a second memory and a third memory. Windows are set on the respective images and whether or not motion has occurred between the windows of the two odd field images is detected. If motion has not occurred, data of a pixel missing in the even field is generated using the pixel, of an odd field, at a position corresponding to this pixel missing in the even field and for which data are to be generated. If motion has occurred, the data of a pixel missing in the even field image is generated using pixels above and below the missing pixel in the even field and for which data are to be generated.

Apparatus and method for generating interpolated image data

A flexible magnetic disk has a first magnetic layer formed on a first surface of a circular polymeric substrate by coating and drying a magnetic coating material. After the first magnetic layer is formed and dried, a second magnetic layer is formed on a second surface of the polymeric substrate by coating and drying the magnetic coating material. The second magnetic layer formed on the second surface is then calendered to form a magnetic recording surface. The resulting magnetic disk provides for an improved surface vibration during high-speed rotation of the disk, and provides very good head touch.

Method of producing magnetic recording media

A method of preparing a ferromagnetic recording medium is disclosed. The method includes charging a ferromagnetic material in an evaporator. The material is then irradiated with an electron beam having a beam current density of at least 0.1 A/cm.sup.2 in order to evaporate the material. The evaporated material is vapor deposited on a continuously travelling support in order to from the recording medium. The vapor deposition type magnetic recording medium produced has good metal film adhesion and durability.

In manufacturing a magnetic recording medium, a flow of iron vapor is formed in a nitrogen atmosphere and iron vapor particles in the flow of iron vapor are deposited on a non-magnetic substrate together with nitrogen particles to form an iron nitride film thereon. Manufacturing method for a magnetic recording medium

A process for fabricating magnetic tape in which a tape substrate in passed through a stream of evaporating material so as to present a continuously varying angle of incidence to the stream. The maximum and minimum angles of incidence are defined. Oxidizing gas is applied to the tape at the minimum angle of incidence and at an intermediate angle.

A magnetic recording medium comprising a magnetic recording layer formed on a non-magnetic substrate by depositing a ferromagnetic metal or alloy on the substrate, the recording layer containing oxygen atoms in such a manner that the ratio thereof gradually reduces from the substrate side to the surface of the recording layer except the portion thereof very near to the surface thereof. The recording layer may comprise many deposited magnetic films, each containing oxygen atoms distributed as described above or uniformly in a ratio different from those in the other magnetic films. In the latter case, a magnetic film positioned nearer to the substrate contains a higher ratio of oxygen atoms.

A method is described for preparing a magnetic recording medium by vapor-depositing a magnetic metal thin film on a polyester film, which comprises winding up a polyester film while subjecting the polyester film to a tension of from 0.1 to 2.0 kg/mm.sup.2, heating the resulting polyester film roll at 60.degree. C. to 80.degree. C. for from 10 to 100 hours, and vapor-depositing a magnetic thin film onto the polyester film while subjecting the polyester film to a tension of 0.5 kg/mm.sup.2 or more.

A process for preparing a magnetic recording medium by forming a ferromagnetic thin film on a non-magnetic support moving along a rotating drum by a vapor deposition method is disclosed, comprising introducing a first oxidizing gas and then introducing a second oxidizing gas near the surface of the ferromagnetic film moving along the rotating drum and glow-discharging the second oxidizing gas, using a charging energy (G) for glow discharge per unit area of a ferromagnetic thin film surface of 1.0 W.multidot.sec/cm.sup.2 or more.
